Hi there. I’m Freddy. Nice to know there is this site/org to come too. First time here. I hope it’s not too impertinent for me to post a question?
I recently applied for a job that would require to me use advanced driving skills - eg, bluelight. Prior to application I undertook a medical to obtain my C1 provisional license, disclosed my ADHD diagnosis at that time to and informed the DVLA. No problems. I was successful at interview and offered the job, depending on checks etc. It all seemed to be going really well until I spoke with an occupational Health nurse over the phone last week. I had disclosed on my occupational health assessment my diagnosis and that I had been in the past prescribed medications (when first diagnosed) but haven’t been on these for years. He seemed to take a great exception to my diagnosis, repeatedly asking me if I had informed the DVLA, implied I wouldn’t be able to do the job as it involved blue light driving and having adhd would be a risk and that there would be lots of support available for someone with my ‘condition.’ Then told me that it would take at least 6 weeks for him to send me a 2 consent forms- 1 for my GP to get my full medical history. 1 for my psychiatrist (I don’t have one) to get a full picture of this ‘condition.’ If that proceeds as planned, the job offer will be rescinded as the training course will start long before I’m able to get cleared by occupational health. When I tell you that I have never felt so utterly miserable, stupid and worthless after that talk, believe me. I just couldn’t get him to listen and understand. So really, I’m here posting because I’m not sure how best to proceed with this. I get they need to make sure I’m safe, but I’ve held far more serious and complex roles than this with absolutely no issues before. Any advice on what I should do? I’m not sure if I’m meant to post my number/email here but I will anyway 07828902000.
