Hi Snickerz Hun, as Stephen suggested get someone else to call them... My hubby got fed up yesterday waiting for me to chase them, so he called them from work!! I was shocked when he told me cos I didn't think they would speak to anyone else (patient confidentiality and all that) but he spoke to them and apparently my psych has been off all last week and they are sorting it this week... I felt better for knowing they hadn't forgotten me!!.... So definately get someone else cos it backs up what we say about us efecting the ppl around us!! Good luck x x

cheers mizmog my mum has took down details and will ring them tomorrow, she is dumfounded that people with adhd who have absolutely no patience are left waiting weeks for medication. Its affecting my family cos im such a miserable frustated cow, my poor wee girl was super stressed this weekend and totally wasnt herself and my husbands keeps going you aint going to go off on one again

Part of me thinks this is some kind of test they give you - to see how long it takes you to totally lose it and demand the meds! Make sure your mum calls them tomorrow. I know procrastination well, so understand why you have not had the motivation to do it so far (even though you will have gone through so much mental anguish by not chasing it up)
If your mum is persuasive enough, then you should get them tomorrow (so long as you can go and pick them up).
Good luck.
John

omfg im in such a rage right now i honestly cant believe what ive just heard. i went to docs this morning and still no letter doc left message and physch office and she has now rung her. Physch said she did mention dexamphetamine but is not going to even think of prescribing it till my next appointment 30th but whats to see how i get on with the mitrazapine because I seem to be getting on alright and she also said that I should consider going back to work part time. Right the last time I looked mitrazapine isnt an effective treatment for adhd its an anti-depressent. Yes it has lifted my mood, but my head still whizzes around, I still get highly stressed and frustrated. I am in in so mcuh shock and cant believe they are playing around with my life like this

think my doc was a bit taken a back to be homest, I went on the mitrazapine because my modd was to low and as it has sedative qualities it was meant to help aid my sleep yeh it has lifted my mood a wee bit but its also making me eat like a horse. believe you me the pysch wont know whats bloody hit her when i go for my next visit im still on the mitrazapine have been on it for about 5 weeks

I agree with twitch. If you make a scene, then you will get seen to straight away. Did your mum explain to the psychiatrist that you wanted meds now? They are probably thinking that ADHD is not affecting you enough, as you have not chased it up enough. I know you have problems with persuing the matter, but if you really want meds now, then you are going to have to make a stand. Go to your psychiatrists place of work, speak to the receptionist explaining why your there, and say you will not leave till you get the meds you were promised weeks ago. The psychiatrist can easily make a prescription out there and then. ( I know cause I got one myself) It really infuriates me that so called professional people do these kind of things to patients with ADHD, they should know better. Is he really a specialist?

I don't understand why she said dex anyway because MPH is supposed to be tried first. Sending you lots of calm but determined vibes to get it sorted.

my mum explained to a tee how this was affecting me but foremost my family, well the doc during the week went you will be taking mph went no she is recommending dex he did look. Dont think she is a specialist ive hear someone say she is SOH whatever that means. My doctor even said that they havent got a clue she referred someone and they went adult adhd and my doc went you better learn. And johnboy I used to be one of the most feistiest people you would ever meet but have kind of got the fight knocked out of me since june, waking up in hospital after your first suicide attempt and then get discharged cos all they thought you had was anger issues

I used to be under the impression that people in the health service knew what they were talking about, experience has taught me otherwise (though to be fair, most have been honest about not knowing the first thing about either autism or ADHD). I really do hope you get these meds soon, and that they give you some benefit, and enable you to build your life up again. And in the meantime, at least you have an outlet here to keep you from going insane! John

John. chased it up enough the doctors have rang the office at least 2-3 times a week, my mother has rang up this week. I will try and get another appointment before the 30th. I think she thinks that because im not suicidal that im coping, thinks she needs to see my day to day life and see the continuing frustration, forgetfullness, stress and immense anger the consumes me. Ive got a good mind to take my husband to next appointment and let him tell them what a nightmare i am to live with and im sure he would also like to point out that it got that bad a few weeks ago he was on the verge of chucking me out the house

If your Husband is willing then definately get him to go, I think they see Mums as ready to back you up no matter what, but a Husband if a different story... if he makes it clear that your marriage is so strained she might take it seriously! get him to ring them if he will even if he has to tell them how down your becoming about it and he is worried about you!! We are all here for you hun every step of the way! x

I agree. Take your husband and let him explain it all from his perspective. My partner went with me, and it helped to have another opinion. (then both of you sit down and refuse to move without a prescription in your hand ) John

Hi snickerez
It certainly does sound as though you haven't been seen by a "specialist"!!
If her title is SHO then that stands for Senior House Officer and she most certainly can't be described as a "specialist" - that has to be Consultant level, and then only when they have undergone additional training in Adhd. This SHO is still in training but should be being overseen by a Consultant.
Why don't you ask to be seen by this person's supervising Consultant, rather than have another appointment with the SHO on the 30th?
To be fair to the SHO it does sound as though she has some idea about what Adhd looks like but just hasn't got to the stage of being an expert. I do hope you find the Consultant does have a greater level of expertise.
It is frustrating being given a less than helpful service but you are getting there and with perseverance yo will succeed!! As you say meds are not a "cure all" but can help you put other strategies into play.
Keep going!
annie
