Phil, I've completely lost the track of what you are trying to achieve in this thread.
Boo's right - not all psychs feel the need to sub-type. Mine didn't. For adults, the treatment is not going to be that different - meds first and a bit of talking therapy if needed.
If you feel you were seen by someone who did not do a good job, or didn't know their stuff, you ask for a second opinion by a proper ADHD specialist, and you keep asking, complaining, bugging your MP until you get it. You don't launch some kind of campaign here coz it's not going to get you anywhere. We don't need convincing - we keep an open mind about anyone seeking a dx - and the people you do need to convince aren't going to be looking here.

in wales we have no pals my local MP you could say is the worse MP in wales he covers the worse place in wales staticically on every level! crime unemployment sickness ect, ect, ect, thats good you're shink coming out and saying thats not the way he/she diagnoses because it is attitudes like that that is messing things up. the last Adult ADHD specialist i saw stated that in order to have ADHD as an Adult you must have sleep problems as a child! so in other words you are saying from one shrink saying the way he/she works that over writes the BMA and N.I.C.E or are you saying they are just White Elephants? a waste of tax payers money. i'm raising awareness that not everything is rosey in the garden! they don't know even if ADHD comes on in childhood before adulthood! i asked my shrink to send me to a sleep clinic before seeing an Adult ADHD expert as i know this would just cause confusion but do shrinks listen to what the average joe say's no they don't! i won't be the first and i wont be the last going around in circles with one paddle ;D you can listen to all the fiction you like that comes out of a shrink or so a called experts mouth! but there will be others in the same position as me and know they are not alone and if they stand there ground and fight! they will get to there destination and not be fobbed off! or be playing NHS pinball for the next XX years theres alot of things people don't understand lots of folks are in a position to go private get a diagnosis in weeks where others don't have that luxuary and have to wade through the bollocks that is the NHS!

My school reports are very similar, ie, paul will not apply himself, paul is lazy, paul spends most of the time day dreaming, paul never completes work!! I also played truant a lot, in fact apart from the truancy these statements have followed me through life and still do!!!

I've come to realise that I really did sod all at school, except almost pretend to take info in and become "alert" when teachers were going to notice me for not paying attention lol. Bar some very easy things, that required little thought,. homework was somewhat reprioritised versus computer gaming, which really was much much more fun.
I was very quiet in lessons, I would not really put my hand up in case I was "noticed" and most times I didn't have an answer anyway. Useless, truly. Even writing this makes me grimace. I 'm going to have to do something about it....

You're really on a mission phil. Is that what it takes to get something done properly?

It should'nt have to be at all tony blairs big idea's of a 68 billion on a computer system when an ADHD specialist knows Sod all about ADHD ;D money could have been spent better on training people to know what they are chatting about lol and becoming specialist's in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD!
