I've looked it up on Google planetdave.
myautisticmuslimchild.com/?p=2613
www.wrongplanet.net/postt212409.html
Edit A weather-sensitive person reacts with varying intensity to changes in weather elements, such as air pressure, temperature and humidity. These changes can affect a person’s wellbeing and may worsen the symptoms of existing disorders, in particular pain. Some of the effects are:
•Increased irritability and aggressiveness, anxiety, depression, listlessness, fatigue, lack of concentration •Sleep disorders •Headache and migraine •Heart and circulation irregularities •Nausea •Dizziness •Scar pain or ‘phantom pain’ •Rheumatic pain.
www.manfredkaiser.com/weather_sensitivity.html
It's barometric pressure that has me bamboozled - temperature and humidity I totally get (I've lived in hot/cold and dry/humid) but if you say pressure gets you then so be it. It's just a first for me - ADHD has been a journey of firsts.

Yes planetdave what happens to me is firstly I feel agitated when the barometric pressure is intense, such as before a thunder storm, even if no storm is predicted and the barometer would only make a light reaction, I too react, the feeling is like as Mary described on her last post on this thread, 'like I'm getting a cold'.
Though no sneezes or anything like that, I feel like the air is pressing on me, like my blood pressure has increased and all my pulses are spurting like hell, idk if they actually are or if it's an illusionary feeling, perhaps a better way of explaining it is that it feels like G-force, a feeling where the body is subjected to pressure, it's like all the nerves in my body have detected something has changed, it's like they are warning me to do something, to take care, or move away, it feels like my ears are popping and I get a pain behind my eyes.
I used to do quite a lot of sea fishing, just from the shore, not on a boat, there is a point where the tide turns, when it's gone one way as far as it will, before it turns there is often a calm lull, just for a few moments, I get the same feeling then, so I'm quite sure that I'm also sensitive to lunar gravity as well as barometric pressure, though the feeling is the same in both instances.
I don't know if there might be anything to this?
1) As a child I spent a lot of time up a tree 'hiding' I even arranged the Ivy to grow to cover my hiding spot in the tree, by winding it between certain branches.
2) I often went running in the woods.
3) I used to pretend that I was spider man and could shoot webs out from my wrists and swing from building to building.
4) For an unknown reason I went and got a tattoo of ants climbing up my body.
5) When I'm travelling past a field of animals sheep/cows I tend to mimic their calls mooooo baaaah etc...
6) I used to make homemade traps to catch things (I'd always let them go)
7) When I'm around 'pets' I often feel that I am able to communicate with them, in a kind of telepathic way, such as I know when they are anxious.
8) As a young child I used to gather/dig/collect/sniff worms.
I can't help but think that all this is related to my adhd where I'm distracted by/sensitivity to light, sound, sudden movement, barometric pressure, and am unable to immerse my mind into a book or a hobby, It's like my mind is so busy on the 'look out' that it won't permit to concentrate, as a child when I was in the classroom daydreaming out the window, I now think that I was not actually daydreaming per say, it's more like I was not permitted by my mind to listen to the teacher, as the teacher was distracting me from my experiences from my environment.
I think if I'm somehow stuck in this 'hunting mode' it kind of explains how I don't listen to people to well, it's because I'd need to be checking the environment subconsciously and I can't let anything distract me from that, so it's not that I'm being distracted from other people via adhd problems, it's that adhd problems are symptoms when I don't want to be distracted by other people or circumstances that effect my concentration to my 'hunting mode'.
It's a bit imagining that you're a leopard, the last thing you want is to be distracted by influences whilst you're trying to remain connected with the environment, I guess that such an animal would need to 'block out' sounds, or move away from bright light or noise as that is going to impede it's nature.
It also goes someway to explain short term memory problems, as having to remember stuff is a distraction for such a way of being.
Or perhaps this is just me procrastinating.

I haven't read a lot of this thread as don't have the eyes or brain today, but when you said someone at work has said to you 'I hate the sound of your voice', 'f*** off' etc....I am horrified! That is bullying. Hating someone's voice?? What an utterly cruel attack on someone's self-esteem. I would have difficulty recovering from such a comment. It like saying to someone 'I hate the shape of your body', or 'I hate your face'. Utterly unacceptable thing to say and I really feel for you that someone dared to say this!! I'm livid!

Ok here's the latest.
I have a meeting set up 2nd June with my Union representative at work to discuss the problems mentioned already.
I went and saw a Psychiatrist today at me scheduled appointment, I mentioned the whole story & that I'd tried many social adjustments such as exercise and making lists etc...
When the psychiatrist asked what I wanted from the meeting(s) I said 'medication'.
'Which medication are you thinking of' I was asked, I replied 'idk perhaps elvanse'.
After a short meeting with a superior Dr the psychiatrist retuned to the room and said 'I'm not sure medication is the right solution, it might not help you with focus, I'd rather you tried other solutions first'.
I explained that I've been at this for about 2 years and have tried lots of solutions having seen two psychologists and a counsellor, and that I know that I'll need to practice other things as well as taking medication but if there is a medication available to help me I'd like to try it.
The psychiatrist said that sounds reasonable and gave me some WEISS FUNCTION IMPAIRMENT RATING SCALE - SELF REPORT (WFIRS-S) and a form for my wife to complete.
I'm now to go back in two weeks and need to send the completed WEISS-S.
I have the distinct feeling that the psychiatrist thinks I'm trying to blag some free recreational drugs from the NHS. Apparently the psychiatrist is going to contact the psychologist who gave my initial diagnosis, I think the psychiatrist want to check that the psychology report that I showed today was authentic and not scanned and altered by 'someone'.
When I mentioned that I used this forum the psychiatrist said 'And what medication did you find out about on that forum'.
I think they're checking that I've not come online to find out about how to blag free drugs from the NHS. I don't think it helped that I was able to mention some brand names like I knew what I was asking for....
I guess they just need to be careful but I do feel quite pissed off, the psychiatrist kept asking if I was depressed or suicidal, my answer was that I'm fed up with this situation, I'm getting depressed by the amount of time it's taking to help me, I'm depressed about being off my work, depressed about my relationship with my wife failing, I've come here to get help for the root problem with all that.
I was then told when I come back in two weeks 'if' I end up with medication I'll need to do some other things too.
So now I'm just hoping.

Right, I had a meeting today with the my work manager, HR manager & union rep.
They've agreed to reassess my competency framework in the aforementioned elements, I'm going to see my GP tomorrow about shortening my sickness and going back to work next week.
I've got an appointment with the OHSAS Dr on Wednesday, I'll be able to show my psychology report, as I have been able to get a copy of it.
I told them today that their competency assessment tool is indirectly discriminative because it does not allow for neurodiversity.
My union rep pressed this issue by stating that the competency framework could be adjusted to include neurodiversity, the HR manager said that this will be looked into, so it may be a small victory for others with neurodiversity that may work in the sector as the union reps will now be able to press this issue.
They also apologised for losing my OHSAS referral twice and the third time referring me to a place in another county, the forth time they got it right, I've used this to argue that my sick pay ought not be 'half pay' as their lack of support or errors have caused my sickness on this occasion.
The HR manager said that this will be looked into and perhaps an exception should be made about my sick pay, the union rep also pressed this point and we argued that my OHSAS referral was to keep me working, because it was so delayed due to organizational errors, my sickness from work then occurred because I was asking for support from OHSAS to help the organization to help me, and the process failed, this caused my sickness, hence I ought not be on half sick pay, rather full sick pay as my illness was caused by the lack of support.

Went to see the OHSAS Dr today, he had a copy of my psychology report, must have got it from my GP, he said it's clear that I have ADD as per the psychology report and that he will be writing to my employer having seen verification that I do indeed have ADD.
So now there is no confusion at my work, and I do have ADD, they will need to make allowances for this impairment.
I'll report again after my psychiatrist appointment on Friday, and when I find out whether or not my sick pay is to be reinstated to the full sick pay rather than half pay.
They're making a risk assessment where I work to reduce the impact on my ADD/stress etc.... So I'll report on that also.

Things appear to be moving all the time now, the psychiatrist that I've seen is the number two, I mean assigned to the consultant if that makes any sense.
Thing is I just got a phone call about my appointment tomorrow and the main consultant is going to sit in too, so that's me with x2 psychiatrists, I was also asked on what grounds was I found not to be Asperger's by the psychologist, I've already shown the psychology report but I think they want to look into this again.
So it might be resurfacing that I am somewhere inbetween Asperger's and ADD, I think the psychologist said I was not Asperger's due to the lack of severity of the traits that I have.
Or I might be Asperger's with ADD, idk but this is now going to be the second time within a year or so that I've sat with a specialist and am being suspected of having Asperger's.

The consultant psychiatrist has overridden the psychologists report and said I have Asperger's Syndrome, and that I scored high, so it's not borderline or anything like that, he said I scored nearly as high as could be on the scale used.
He said that ''there is a possibility that I might have ADD too, but that would be a secondary problem and could account for me not having special interests that influence my life''.
Nevertheless I scored 229 on the scale where 65 means a likelihood of Autism. He said 'I'm a consultant psychiatrist with lots of experience with different problems such as these and I'm diagnosing you as Asperger's Syndrome not ADD, my diagnosis overrides the psychology diagnosis.

wow bluedrifter - you've had a heck of a week. it's a rollercoaster just to read. how do you feel? (i'm a bit confused as the psych seems to say both that you have asperger's and might have adhd, and that you have asperger's and not adhd. i wonder, is he a specialist in both or in asperger's?)

I feel a bit weird that's all Mary.
The psychiatrist says I have Asperger's Syndrome and there is also a possibility that I may have ADD too, he says to get some support for the Asperger's first and then if any ADD symptoms persist I can then get help for them too. But he says that most of my ADD like symptoms can be explained by Asperger's as it's typical for Aspies to not give attention to things they find boring and they also have problems with communication & managing emotions.
That's the state of play.
Edit he says he has treated many patients with those symptoms and knows the difference, and that I'm quite clearly Asperger's but there is a 'possibility' of having ADD too. (not common but possible)

i'm not surprised you feel weird having been told you definitely had one label and not another, and then getting told that you definitely have the second label and the first label may not be right either.
so the thing the psychologist said was definitely not affecting you because it was mild, is the very thing that the consultant psychiatrist says definitely is affecting you and at the high end of the spectrum! one minute no-one believes you then everyone wants to label you. and you've done research and learned about adhd, found parallels in your own life experience and way of seeing the world, only to be told your primary diagnosis is actually aspergers. no wonder you're feeling a bit weird: i would too.
it's praps worth remembering it is a question of labels, hopefully a way of understanding yourself and enabling you to be understood and to function with the NT world, rather than the label changing who you actually are - a different frame of reference perhaps?
i think there is a fair amount of overlap between aspergers /asd and adhd, and they are not uncommon co-morbids. certainly there have been loads of threads on aspergers and ASD on this forum. and didn't we have a recent thread where people were doing an ASD online test? i think quite a few of us found that we scored at the ASD end of the spectrum.

(not common but possible) Aspies+ADHD is common as muck. I don't know what treatment for Aspies is particularly effective - there has been much talk in the online psych community about ADHD meds being used for Aspies. We did an online test on here for Aspies - if the test was in any way accurate then the majority of inattentive ADHDers have Aspies too. I'm 'combined' and I scored quite highly for Aspies. The test might have been inaccurate for us - but I'm finding what you report about the psychiatrist puzzling - either I'm completely off beam or your psych is (or the reporting is faulty).

he says he has treated many patients with those symptoms and knows the difference, and that I'm quite clearly Asperger's but there is a 'possibility' of having ADD too. (not common but possible) About 30 % adhd'ers have ASD and vice versa - so as @planetdave says, it is most definitely 'common as muck' I'm also not sure what treatment there is for aspies - all I know is that adhd meds should be titrated up more slowly for aspies. Given there are overlapping symptoms for us - and that adhd meds are the singularly most effective psychiatric medications there are - and there are no recognised medications specifically for ASD (as far as I know) - maybe the better way to deal with it would be to treat the adhd and see what ASD symptoms remain... Certainly this is what I've heard time and over from talks by psychs in the adhd field.

Bluedrifter - Glad you have a dx even if it wasn't the one you had expected. I have a friend who has ASD and a couple of things you've said really resonated like the closing your eyes when you didn't want to talk to people. That's not an ADHD thing as far as I know. I hope your journey gets easier from here.

As far as I know the aspies quiz is not a diagnostic tool, it's a research tool, it's questions would apply to many other conditions such as adhd or schizoid personality disorder.
Re Asperger's & ADD, perhaps I'm not explaining it very well, the psychiatrist is saying that Asperger's shares some traits with ADD, he say's when those traits are investigated further they actually reflect Asperger's and not ADD, he say's that when I keep checking things about 8 times in case I have forgotten something, or I read something about 8 times to absorb it is Asperger's syndrome, he said it's likely that ADD people wouldn't bother with all that checking, they'd usually drift off to something else....
He said 'what you are describing is typical Asperger's and the opposite of AD(h)D. He said that if the psychologist had not mentioned ADD but correctly diagnosed Asperger's that ADD would not even be discussed now. But because I persisted about ADD he checked my ADD scales again and said it's a possibility but unlikely.....
It's me (bluedrifter) that said it's uncommon, as I have misquoted the psychiatrist, he said that it's unlikely for me, sorry 'bout that.
As for 'treatment' I hope you all know that I'm trying to keep my posts short so am generalizing, what I have to do according to the psychiatrist, before I see him again in about 6/8 weeks.
I've to go to an autism drop in place, phone first to make sure what times they are open, then just drop in and tell them 'Dr xyz' sent me and I have Asperger's syndrome.....
It feels a bit weird because I have checked on their webpage and a lot of the service users appear to have more needs than me, they have carers etc... whilst I'm in full time employment, am married, mortgaged up and drive a car etc.... I don't see what they can do?
The psychiatrist says that they can firstly get me registered there, they can provide support with work issues, and problems with discrimination etc.... (like the harassment mentioned previously) They can also provide support with problems with my relationship with my wife or other people, and access and type of support needed, without me having to get anxious, they can advocate and access support quickly because they know what to do.
It feels odd just turning up there 'Hi I have Asperger's'
Anyhow the psychiatrist said after all that if any ADD like symptoms are apparent, he said don't worry I'll get you some treatment for that, at present he does not see ADD but said 'maybe'. I think he just wants to make sure, because if these ADD type symptoms that I mention are still present outside of Asperger's and after my anxieties have been somewhat addressed with the support then he'll provide treatment, he said that the constant losing things around the house or forgetting to do tasks could be ADD or it could be stress due to Asperger's causing anxiety, so we'll see after some Asperger's support.
I've decided to go along with all this, it's quite confusing, I hope you'll all just accept that that's it, Idk how good this explanation is?
Geeesh my manager at work has booked the team leader's on development training for ADHD so they know how to 'supervise me' Idk if they've had that training yet or not, I'm going to tell my employer today that it's Asperger's with some type of possibility of ADD too, Idk

You know what we're like slightly at a tangent but interesting nonetheless linkFor a long time I've been banging on about Aspies crossing over into ADHD (which would put ADHD onto the autistic spectrum) - I keep seeing things that suggest there is no true separation.

bluedrifter - great explanation. thank you for taking the time/making the effort - it's really helpful to understand what you were talking about. i hope work were/are ok when you tell them they may be booked to do the "wrong" training. but hopefully the training will help somebody, even if it's not necessarily you.

I don't think their training has been set yet, so it can be changed, there's a mental health trainer where I work who will sort something out for them.
As for work, when I had a meeting with my manager, HR manager, and Union rep, my manager was nice as pie, today when it was just me the manager reverted back to being a twat.
She said, and I quote '' Is it just at work ?'' I mean ffs who's going to have Asperger's just at work.
When my sickness was discussed I said I've not had this problem with other organizations that I've worked for, the reply ''I find that hard to believe''.
To think I work in a place where we have autistic people that use the service and this manager provides the 'autism training' for staff, there is an obvious huge lack of understanding or the manager is trying to wind me up
Surely their taking the piss.

Nope - I've been asked by a major foundation trust's HR department about their new ADHD recruit - 'what kind of trouble should we expect?'.
It really is almost beyond believe how much management can be out of step with 'core values' (which might have changed since they joined the organisation).

I've had a letter from the psychiatrist to give my employer, it states that I certainly have Asperger's syndrome which is my primary condition, I also have some other symptoms that are consistent with ADHD.
Not surprisingly my employer has now about back paddled on just about all the issues raised and there's likely going to be at least one meeting between my employer and an advocate who I am in the process of obtaining through a specialist autism advice centre, where the psychiatrist had directed me towards.
So things are looking up a little.

I have now got an advocate who will be attending work meetings with me etc....
I now detect very little bother at work.
It's as though the management are completely back peddling on about everything, and believe me when I tell you all this, when my primary diagnosis changed from ADD to Asperger's syndrome, my employer appeared to take the whole thing a lot more seriously, I don't know how that helps anyone else, that's is simply what has occurred.

most if not all people with neurological conditions struggle with changes in barometric pressure - it can cause exacerbation in pain, fatigue and whatever the original symptoms were. it also causes a weird "under the weather" (!) feeling, the way you might feel when you have contracted a virus but before your immune system starts producing sneezes, coughs, headaches etc. I totally get that 'weird' thang

ADHD to Aspergers? What do YOU think? When you read this forum do you think 'God, thats me'? Have you read books by Russell Barkley, Thomas Brown or other excellent ADHD experts? Books that are a lot more clear about what ADHD is than most of the information you will find online (which seems to focus mostly on attention). Because I think UK Psychiatry is quite behind when it comes to ADHD (one expert thought I was bipolar, & treated me for it. I wasnt). A lot of the NHS stuff seems to be about avoiding giving out stimulants, & they dont seem to have much knowledge on the social & emotional impact of ADHD - which is huge for some people. And now you could have depression all wrapped up in this, which again, no one is treating.
I know you dont want to speand any money but is saving the £500 (absolute max) THAT important? If it was me Id be getting a second opinion from a private ADHD specialist & getting stimulants. If they dont work then you know where you are, but as it stands you could waste months/years & not get any actual help. And dont discount anti depressants, Prozac can be a life saver - literally. A lot of negativity/stuck-ness is depression & depression is very, very, very common amongst people with ADHD. Again, going private gives you access to better drugs (including ones to stop the sexual side effects of SSRIs which the NHS seem to feel are not worth bothering with). Surely saving your marriage & career is worth £500? Once youve got your diagnosis & found stimulants work (or dont) you can go back to your NHS guy.
