So, after all the stressing of what if funding isn't allowed etc. I have the great news that funding has been accepted. I will be going to North Tees, not sure what to expect next? Thanks Duckster

yes you can be nosey I will be honest in saying i don't know the ins and outs. All i know is i went to gp explained why i feel i need to be assessed, he eventually agreed and referred me to a psychiatrist (i think thats who) and after a few weeks they rejected my referral (i have no idea why- i presume they werent specialised in ADHD?!) and then the dr said he will appply for funding (13th March) Dr phoned today to tell me the news although i live in Cumbria a so will have to leave the county (I think that is something to do with applying for funding). Are you having issues with getting funding ?

No I went private, which has cost me just under £1000 to date. Funding sure would have come in handy as I recently lost my job due to ADHD symptoms.
My route from assessment to diagnosis was fairly quick so I'm just glad that parts over.
Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you.

Great news Duckster!!
It sounds as though your Gp understood hid local Health care system. For the benefit of others still trawling their way through the "system" If you live in an area where the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has NOT funded a specialist Adult ADHD Clinic your Gp can write to the CCG asking them to agree funding to an "out of area" specialist Adult ADHD service - this is what has happened in Duckster's situation and thankfully the CCG has done the honourable thing!
One of the problems is when the CCG try to wriggle out of their duty with all sorts of dubious arguments. Another is when a local Mental Health Trust says it does provide an Adult ADHD service, even though it hasn't been commissioned to provide this. In a positive scenario, there may well be a local psychiatrist who has an interest in Adult ADHD and may well have attended some of the UKAAN training and is gathering some expertise in the area - in this case an individual may well receive a good assessment/dx/treatment (albeit restricted to medication alone) service.
In a less helpful scenario a person may be seen by a local psychiatrist who has little or no interest/experience in ADHD, in which case the individual is likely to be "fobbed off" with a dx of anxiety, depression etc.
It's still a huge minefield for individuals and the best defense is to become an expert on understanding how Health is commissioned and delivered. Even then, you're going to need to be ready to do battle!!

Thank you Bullettrain, your circumstances sound rubbish! Is there no way you can sue for unfair dismissal? atleast you have it diagnosed and it wasn't a long drawn out process Thanks for the post Anne, very informative and its true about being fobbed off, my Dr nearly did the same with me, I had to tell him that I wasn't depressed, if anything i am doing well in life and enjoying it! Sounds intreguing, Pelargonium! please keep us updated, I will be interested to hear about it all Duckster xx
