Is there a forum member who can use a last-minute available ticket for tomorrow's conference? I was going to take someone with me, but the tickets ran out so quickly that I gave up that ticket to another forum member. who's now had to drop out at the last minute & it's too late notice for my friend to go. Can anyone else use it? You'd need to be at SLAM around 9.00am tomorrow - details & programme further up this thread. on your marks, get set..? PS I'm going to bed v soon, otherwise i won't get there tomorrow myself - feeling lousy with a cold I'll check for messages sometime before 9pm, and again around 7am tomorrow

I am at ortus now, I have a feeling that eventually some people will show without tickets. Should I give the entry desk the name of the person who is not coming? So they can give it to someone else?

good thought hermanli but sadly i didn't turn my phone on until now! i gather there were a handful of people who overslept/couldn't come at the last minute due to unforeseen circs. another time it might be worth turning up on spec ...

Hello ! I had a great day was fantastic to listen to all the opinions and loved the debates.
Really interesting characters events like that need to happen more often for me I found it so beneficial to share what it's like on a day to day basis and be able to laugh with someone who just "gets it"
For me the highlight was being in the wrong work shop and midway saying hey guys ..... Wrong workshop and receiving a round of applause and not a bollocking for "not paying attention' you guys get it !
Let's arrange another ! Shelly !

Apologies to anyone that got the bum's rush off me - I got stuck with an near impossible position and it stressed me out.
To everyone else - lovely to have chats with Fuzzy and CM, and anyone else who didn't actually know me, after the presentation from hell.
On the other hand - got a first crack at starting some interesting ventures, which it's too soon to talk about.

I don't know about others but found it really interesting today and was great to meet people from other groups. What di other think of today? worthwhile? Worthwhile and not a totally hopeless first attempt. I'd ditch the hapless duo doing the peer support talk for a start I'd go just for the networking opportunities and anything else is icing. There are inbuilt issues with the venue eg Denmark Hill is a PITA to get to, especially for 9am (and the main hall was too wide so anyone out of eyeline was sidelined). Isn't 10AM-6PM a much better prospect for travelling? There's no way I could have done it without accommodation on the Thursday night.

I hope we're going to get asked for some feedback. There were some great things, and some things which are great learning opportunities!
There were loads of issues with the venue, especially for anyone with sensory issues - light & sound very particularly, not to mention being in an airless 21C with quite short breaks.
Some small group working time, shorter workshops, understanding that the audience may well know something about the subject and often have v useful stuff to share. It felt as tho there was a fair amount of untapped potential in the room, which was rather a missed opportunity
Not enough info about the resource being launched, nor ws it clear where/how to sign up for it.
I ws Very Surprised the venue has won access awards, i wonder what for..?

I'll give them feedback - send it to me.
I was quite surprised by the physical access aspect, it came across as 'woo, look at me - nah, it'll be fine, we have lifts'.
You'll have to clue me in of the sensory parts, though the mezzanine and 'stepped' area were overly 'bright' on the acoustic front for me. Also temperature control.
I did the 'workplace' workshop - or was it lecture; they didn't seem to appreciate that some of us have real world experience and wanted to contribute. And we're impulsive and I can be loud. I gave up in the end - not my gig and some might actually need the ABC of introductory issues. I suspect half the room had full on experiences that they really wanted to share/get input on, even if it's just validation.

I'll give them feedback - send it to me. In terms of feedback, I thought considering it was the first one, it was excellent. The positives for me: - It was great getting a bunch of us with ADD/ADHD in a room with professionals that wasn't in a clinical environment.
- I met lots of new people who I get and get me :-)
- I felt it was well structured.
- I found the breaks about right and the various presentations en lightening.
- food and catering was fine as well
- I've been in a lot worse environments but I'm fortunately not too effected by that side of things -
The negatives for me (which are fairly minor):
- I felt the workshops didn't work - in mine there was a lot of talking with valid questions but it meant that the professionals weren't able to get over much detail about the subject matter - This i think is a occupational hazard with so many ADD/ADHD people in a room at the same time - Maybe they needed to be a bit more structured - i.e. the professionals explains the subject mater, then allocate windows for Q&A on it.
- the Catering.... Perversely they had pretty much typical conference cattering which meant without thinking I had 3 or so strong coffees first thing on top of my meds so was bouncing (coffee was how I self medicated!) - maybe thinking of that kind of thing and have decaff or alternative non stimulant hot drinks.
Cheers

Hi - t'was good to meet you. I suspect all the workshops had the same problem - 30+ ADHDers in a room is a recipe for chaos; have they never been to a support group meet (no - the pros usually steer clear because of the 'doctor, look at my rash' phenomenon)? Considering that it was run by ADHD professionals that aspect was a disappointment to me - they really should know what their service users are like. If I was running the workshop I attended I'd have told me to STFU and customised the workshop to suit the clientèle instead of trying to make disabled people fit their template. I could write a book* about the various shortcomings of the event but they got it right enough for me to sign up for another one. If I get my expenses paid (not holding my breath on that one). *who are we kidding, I'll just whine on here

Thanks Lesley.
I have signed up and then realised that we need to be approved for the ADHD section before we can read any threads. Hopefully that is just a formality, I am looking forward to reading the content.

No role call please - just let me know if you haven't.

They were taking details (2 ladies with laptops on the mezzanine level above the coffee/food area) which would presumably have short circuited teh approval. But I have heard nothing from them. Thanks for the URL - it wasnt 100% clear this sign up was the same thing. I am "allergic" to creating accounts on places and have been known to create an account and find it was a related but different site. Have signed up (which gives you read access to some resources but you presumably need approval to post).

I was accepted into the ADHD section almost immediately after confirming my account via the email link they sent. I didn't manage to attend the conference, so I did not register on the day, only through the link @lesley provided here.

i received and ahd a look at the feedback email yesterday. it is pretty overly structured & doesn't give any space for "anything else" feedback.
having a few years' expeirence of setting up & running conferences for people with lived experience of a wide range of physical/sensory/cognitive/mental health issues, it's annoying that it doesn't give people much space to say what didn't work, which is usually key to getting through to the best & most helpful ideas as well as avoiding repetition of unhelpful things.
once i'm over GA/drugs i will give some thought to additional (helpful) feedback that would enable thought and improvement for next time, and pass it along

Sorry contrarymary - I couldn't resolve that last part. Have you got an address for your extra input or would you need it forwarding? And can I pick your brains for any event organisation?

I have visited the site a few times but havent managed to get my head round it. On positive side, the videos of the conference are there. But otherwise it mainly seems to be reposts of other web sites, often videos. I am willing to be convinced otherwise!
Disclaimer, I am phobic of videos. THe number of times I have been pointed to a video on Youtube and found it wasnt what I was looking for. Call me an old grey haired fogey but I find it easier to skim and jump around on a textual website.

I signed up and read a few articles and commented on the forum like parts... it's a little confusing to navigate - mostly because there's a lot there and it's not entirely intuitive. useful info in there re employment and was interesting to listen to some of the videos (yes I said listen) from the conference. I think it will get better as more things are added over time.

interestingly, i didn't find it very ADHD-friendly so went once and have not been back.
no doubt if i went back for a few mintues at a time it would be much easier. new things can be very tough to *learn*.
