How long have you been on Quetiapine?
I was on it for years, and would not recommend it. I kept taking it because it helped me sleep, but it didn't help
at all with daytime tiredness, and I couldn't blame my inability to get up in the morning on lack of sleep anymore either.
Over time, it led to me being easily confused, and unable to think through anything properly. At the time I put it down to getting old, but when I finally stopped taking it, contrary to the specialists instructions, I gradually regained (a lot of) my intellectual capacity. I don't think I am quite as bright as I used to be, but that might really be age, or it might be permanent damage, I have no way of knowing.
Unfortunately my inability to get a decent night's sleep also returned, and the daytime sleepiness was no better either.
mph helps a bit with both, and a bit more besides, but I really wish the doc would let me try something else.
Hi Marion,
I've been on it for about three and a half years now, before that I took Risperidone for about 6 months. For me, I wasn't able to function with mood fluctations and now take it mostly for anxiety and to help me get to sleep. I tried coming off it once but became a depressed zombie. I reckon I could probably do better off it now but I really want to get up to an effective dose of Methylphenidate before I go back to uni so don't want to taper down first.
I'm on such a small dose that I'm virtually side effect free, though.
Today I was cleared for Medikinet starting at 2.5mg twice a day, to go up to 5mg in the morning and 2.5mh in the afternoon next week. She wants to be extra careful as there's a dearth of information on Quetiapine and Methylphenidate interactions in the manual the NHS use but they can both effect the heart and liver. She thinks I'll be fine though, as the heart side effects are general opposite so ought cancel each other out and my Quetiapine dose is small.
Sorry to hear they won't let you change to anything else.
