Hi gc7 . . I'm not too sure what you're asking. . . I was dx ADHD hyperkinetic (hyperactive/impulsive. . I wish they'd agree on terminology) with little evidence of inattention. . I think that hyperactive traits may manifest differently as you get older. . More on the inside, rather than the obviously physical . . You'd only be both hyperactive AND inattentive if you have combined type. .

Hi again. gc7 you seem to be able to express yourself in writing. . You write in rather large chunks. . but I've had a skim over your previous posts to see how you got here. It may be time to make a another complaint to the NHS and see if you can be referred again to a different adult ADHD specialist. . or to have a general MH assessment in secondary care. In the meantime. . after you've calmed down. . compile a list of possible traits that affect you. . from as many sources as possible. Make your case in a measured and reasoned manner. Get someone else to advocate for you. Have you ever had any counselling or therapy? If so, could you get hold of your records? I'm saying this because the specialist I saw said that records kept by one of my therapists (on my electronic records) was what convinced him of my diagnosis. Again . . I'd like to repeat that you don't have to be at all inattentive (clinically) to be ADHD H/I . . only PI and combined. . .talking too much and too quickly and jumping from topic to topic is hyperactive. . I have dysthymia. . my default is depressed, although I'm hyperactive. . I was dx bipolar and put on lithium for a few years. . I knew they were wrong, but didn't know why. I don't know why you think that stimulant medication has anything to do with psychosis . Why is it so important for you to have a dx? Particularly if you're not keen on medication. . You can self-diagnose and learn how to manage it. . while you pursue an 'official' dx. . which is only an opinion anyway.

Hi just read your post and wantedv to send a vertul hug. Im undx and don't want to seek school partly for the reasons you've expressed (kafkaesque- what an amazing word! Took me ages to stop my brain playing with that one lol- how is bit pronounched?). I'm afraid I don't really have anything of value to say but just wanted you too know you're not alone and that everyone's adhd presents differently- it's a relatively new phenomenon so the terms and types and 'norms' (anyone else hate that term? ) aren't well defined yet. I hope thinks get better for you soon.

Don't worry gc7 I know you're upset today and I was trying to challenge you . . To help you to see from a different perspective. Of course you want a dx . . to confirm what you know in your heart. . It it was an incredible relief for me. . since then it's been hard getting any kind of support. Because I moved house, I'm now in an area with no ADHD service. . 6 months after I asked to be referred to a specialist I've found out that I've been referred to someone in secondary MH who is able to prescribe ADHD meds . . there's no support. . and I stopped taking concerta because I hadn't finished titration and it was just making me tired. I may have to fight to go out of area (an hour's drive) to a really good holistic ADHD unit with adapted therapy, occupational health, social workers etc. . It's not easy, even with a dx. Look after yourself x

Sorry in the delay. gc7 Yes, I was angry at being dx bipolar! The lithium messed up my thyroid and therapy never seemed to work. I don't know about services in the borders, but there are a few people from Cumbria. . (A recent post called anyone from Cumbria) and a few from Newcastle/Sunderland. . It might be worth starting a thread asking for their experience. I also don't know much about working in a conventional workplace . . I've avoided office jobs since I was sacked in 2003. I'm currently looking for work, but not full-time in an office. . There have been quite a lot of work related posts recently. . in introductions. . and College/Career./work/personal issues and information about workplace adjustments. Now that I have a dx, I'm getting help from Remploy, but jobcentres should all have a disability employment advisor. . I hate thinking of myself as disabled. . but I have an MA and have never had a job where any qualifications were necessary, so I think I need help. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help. PM me if you want to talk
