In what way is a yam related to a human? Why is this more 'natural'? Below is copied and pasted from my reply to your post on 5-HTP: WARNING . .just because something's found 'in nature' doesn't mean that it's safe to use . .there are plenty of poisonous plants . .and many 'pharma' drugs are derived from things found in nature. . .asprin from bark and penicillin from mould, for example. . Heroin and cocaine are natural products derived from plants, as are tobacco and alcohol. . Pharmacological drugs are rigorously tested before coming to market, which is why they cost so much to develop and 'natural' remedies are often not tested to such an extent. What are 'chemicals' and 'synthetics'? they have to be made from something. .usually something found or extracted from the natural world. Would you prefer diabetics to still get insulin extracted from animals (natural) or use 'synthetic' versions. I'm not totally against using food supplements for health, but would never advocate the use of anything INSTEAD OF . . .or encourage buying unknown substances online as you don't know what's in them. I'm glad it works for you, although I'm still not convinced that something
from a plant can be equivalent to human hormones.
I've been advised to avoid progesterone due to my ehlers danlos syndrome
and if I need HRT to stick to oestrogen only . .so even if it works, it's not good for me if I want to avoid more frequent dislocations and other joint problems.
I'm just 50 and still have a relatively normal menstrual cycle and I don't know
how I feel about the menopause apart from the joy of no periods.
Eds is comorbid with ADHD and I've only recently discovered that some
contraception (containing progesterone) can make it worse . .
I don't want to exacerbate another debilitating condition further . .
I'd have ADHD alone 100x than the eds

Interesting
I'd need to avoid progesterone for the same reason. Although I should have a while till I get there. Oestrogen has a positive stabilising effect for joints and a positive effect on the left side of the brain that deals with organisation.
I know just with contraceptives that I react horrifically to some types of hormones and great to others, so I would wounder if hRt is the same?
