Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for parents of children with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder or conduct disorder who also regularly participate in some kind of voluntary work (could be helping a neighbour with their shopping, helping in your child's school etc.). This research is for my psychology MSc dissertation.
Project title: The impact of volunteering on life satisfaction and coping in parents of behaviourally-challenging children and children with speech impairments
Description: A study looking at how having a child with special needs affects parental life satisfaction and coping methods. Does a parent who regularly volunteers have higher life satisfaction and coping ability?
Objective: To investigate the life satisfaction and coping in parents of behaviourally-challenging children compared to those whose children have speech impairments and whether volunteering has any effect.
Design/methods: Online survey (can return to complete within a week), quantitative data. Anonymous.
Participant characteristics: Parents whose children have a behavioural disorder OR a speech disorder, not both and no other children with other special needs.
Outcome measures: Life satisfaction and coping scores.
Researchers: Victoria White
Funding bodies: NA
Other organisations: University of Derby
Start date: January 2017
Expected completion date: Summer 2017
Contact details: v.white3@unimail.derby.ac.uk
