Hi everyone,
The BBC's One Show is making a film about adults who believe they may have ADHD, but are still awaiting referral/diagnosis. If you’re interested in finding out more or being involved, please contact: gary.butcher@bbc.co.uk

Eek - sounds interesting, but not sure if I would be ready to let cameras into my chaotic world yet. Do let us know when it will be aired if you have that information please

I sent them an email - ironically this thread was created on Wednesday, the same day I found out from the Stein Centre that the wait for my diagnosis appointment will be "years, not months" - so it's an issue pretty close to my heart at the moment and a source of a fair bit of anxiety! I wouldn't want to go on camera but don't mind them reading out an email with a name change or something I'm also a bit apprehensive as past BBC coverage of ADHD has been cringey at best and atrocious at worst! BOF.

Same here, going on camera isn't something i'm ready for but I would be happy to contribute some information about my experiences.

I would be willing to get involved and help as much as I can, in some way or another. I am at the start of my journey, as I just approached my GP yesterday,( he wasn't very helpful). He said if I had ADHA I should be hyperactive all the time. if anyone has ideas on what I could do next please help.

Hi and welcome to the forum: First, to get involved with the film you can email the producer, Gary Butcher, at gary.butcher@bbc.co.uk Second, not only is it a stereotype that people with ADHD are hyperactive all the time, your GP is not qualified to decide whether or not you have ADHD, only a specialist can do that. If despite what the GP said, you have a feeling that this GP is open to re-education, you could try going back with copies of relevant pages from the NICE Guidelines available here and here on our website there are also lists of symptoms as well as ADHD rating scales. Then tell him firmly but politely that you need a referral to an ADHD specialist. If you know that that's not realistic, then I suggest you make an appointment with a different GP at your surgery (ask for a GP who understands ADHD) Feel free to keep us updated and to ask any more questions.

I've only just reg. on this site.
I was diagnosed at 27 which was over 10 years ago now.
I didn't realise that the help wasn't there anymore after the political party changed over ten years ago.
Even with the medication (Concerta) it's still a struggle but I find the medication helps me so much I'm reluctant to take it. So 3 months of medication lasts 6 months. I find taking it makes me so normal and eager to address stuff I then don't take it for a few days.
Today I took the medication and I've been frantically trying to catch up with stuff I should've done weeks ago I'm now struggling to sleep.
I do know someone who made a documentary about ADHD before that was aired on the BBC. He made people look stupid. Without mentioning his name; and he's a failed comedian and was the wannabe fame boy on Channel 5's Wright Stuff I'd say everyone is right to not want to be on camera.
If it's him he'll try to make you look stupid.
I know this guy because we went to primary school together 30 years ago and he got a bit of fame after the last doc/Mock you mentory a few years ago.
Since that Mock he's been struggling so I'm guessing this new claim is his attempt to produce something similar.

Hi jamesbulldogdorothy, welcome to the forum Unfortunately it seems that funding for mental health services has diminished over the last 10 years (as with funding for many other helpful services) Thanks for the tip regarding MR from the Wright Stuff. This particular film, however, is being produced for the 'One Show' and the development producer is called Gary Butcher who works at the BBC, currently for the 'One Show'. And again Welcome
