Hello People, Need some advice on getting a private diagnosis in or around Greater Manchester? Sick to death of being messed around (putting it polielty) by g.P's ,mental health workers etc. Etc .
So any advice would be greatly appreciated as at wits end.
Thank you. SH 75

Are you looking for suggestions/recommendations of where to go or... something else?

I live in the North West so any recommendations in this area? Or near as possible.
What kind of money would I be I need to get a private diagnosis?
Also I was looking at ADHD centre Liverpool/Manchester. Have an appointment with CMHT (again) but my OH is going to come and speak on my behalf.
This is because GPS etc won't listen to me cause I stray and ramble when talking so OH will make them listen I hope.
But If this don't work ,well it has to be private route.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice .

Purely in terms of costs:
I shopped around a bit. There were cheaper. Especially some who did it over the phone/ Skype which I didn't want to do.
Went with Clinical Partners' (Cardiff Branch) partly because it was the closest. Initial assessment was £595
Now I'm terrified someone is going to come back with "OMG not THAT outfit - they are cowboys and snake oil dealers."
Anyways....
Follow up for prescription £195
There will be a minimum of three. But possibly a lot more.
So my plan is to stabilise quickly 😂
Meds on private prescription will start at £55 for 28 days of Concerta 18mg. Again I phoned a couple of places for prices. Maybe there's cheaper. As the dose goes up, which seems the norm, so will the price.
If it doesn't work it's back to square one on something else. Next line is Straterra, which costs a bit more. And I guess a minimum of three visits before I can be declared stable.
At some point hopefully I will be stabilised on something that works and then can shift over to the NHS under a shared care arrangement.
So I've been allowing for between £1600 - £2500 approx including travel. Hopefully less because I don't have that kind of cash!!!

Hey, could I also get that info PM'ed to me? I'm in the NW also, and have been on a waiting list since last April - phoned against today to be advised that it will be another 6 months at the soonest before I have an appointment. If I can afford it, would seriously consider private - can't keep putting my life on hold waiting for help

Hi jp, I saw your post about being diagnosed with Clinical Partners in Cardiff. I have also had a diagnosis with them. Do you live in Wales? I am currently having issues with getting meds as I live in Bristol and I now have a potential 18 month wait to see an NHS psychiatrist!

Hi jp, I saw your post about being diagnosed with Clinical Partners in Cardiff. I have also had a diagnosis with them. Do you live in Wales? I am currently having issues with getting meds as I live in Bristol and my GP can't do shared care with someone in Wales so I now have an 18 month wait to see an NHS psychiatrist! Hi Matthew - Sorry I didn't notice this earlier. I too live in England and got diagnosed by Clinical Partners in Wales. I don't think the border is significant. Perhaps I misunderstood the notion of 'shared care'. It may be that cross-border 'shared care' arrangements are NOT possible - I don't know. What actually happened was that my GP's practice had a partner's meeting to decide on their policy for situations such as mine (amazingly it hadn't come up before - or perhaps it was just in relation to adult ADHD). Anyway... they decided that they would be happy to prescribe under guidance from my psychiatrist after a period of titration and stabilisation (minimum 3 months), and with occasional check-ups (frequency TBD). This is simply following NICE guidlines i.e. (off label) prescription under the guidance of a qualified specialist. 'Shared care' is something else. Apologies if I've misled anyone by saying otherwise!!! I also understand that it is entirely up to the GP as to whether-or-not they prescribe in this way. Perhaps understandable (albeit frustrating) given that there are potentially serious side effects, and the GP may feel out of their depth since this is a specialised area of medicine. So... what to do? In the first case I would speak to your GP's practice manager - or a senior partner if your GP is not one - see if their decision was practice policy or a personal decision. Maybe just arrange an appointment with another GP there for a second opinion. Or change clinic - preferably to one you have already established will prescribe as per NICE guidelines.
