Right basically when I was younger I was diagnosed with Aspergers, even though all my family disagreed with it they still gave me the diagnosis.. Couple years later I went to see some more psychiatrists who all said I didn't have it. however now that I'm older I feel as though it is more adhd as apparently the 2 can be misdiagnosed?
I'm at university at the moment and I'm really struggling with class work I just cannot keep concentration on the teacher, the same for alot of other things but this is what is bothering me the most. I also always struggled in school I was always the "class clown" always up and messing about.
I can't seem to find a place that does diagnosis for adhd and I really want to get some meds or something for it but not sure where to start... My doctor said action for asd also tests for adhd but I phoned and they said no and doctors dont put refferals in for adults just kids...
FIRST: see student services at your Uni. They may be able to screen for ADHD, even diagnose if they’re
an educational psychologist and you can get reasonable adjustments for your academic work.
HOWEVER . . .only a specialist medical professional can prescribe meds.
Services for adult ADHD are patchy and variable and often have a long waiting list.
Do a bit of research and find out what’s available in your area of the country and ask to
be referred for assessment. Some areas have Single Point of Access for secondary
Mental Health Services which means you can self-refer. If you get a provisional diagnosis
from student services you have a very good case to push for medical assessment.
If there is no service in your area, you can ask for an Individual Funding Request from
the CCG to have treatment out of area (find out your nearest service in advance)
If you can indicate which area of the UK you’re in and/or nearest city, someone might have
direct experience which might help.
