Hey everyone,
I've long suspected I had ADD, but kind of put off doing anything about it because I wrongly thought there just wasn't anything that was going to help me at my age (I'm 37), but the more I read up on it, I feel can really see more and more ways it effects me in every aspect of my life and that actually getting some help for it could actually change a lot of things for the better, even just the ownership would help me I think.
First of all I'm not at all a wealthy person, esp right now as I've been made unemployed again because of lockdown. So any help I get really needs to not break the bank. I'm not a student, so can't get support through uni. I just wondered if someone could kind of give me a step by step pathway to getting a diagnosis and getting treatment, ideally through NHS or but would consider private if it was a one off.
So yeah any links, tips or sign posting would be appreciated.

Hi Wolfie, The best thing to do is to ring your GP and book an appointment stating you want a referral for adhd assessment. If you have completed any online questionnaires they will be really helpful for GP to understand and you can inform of the outcome. Your GP should then be able to refer you to services. There is an option called 'right to choose' so it might be worth asking about that as an option for assessment as you can use online services or out of area services. Where I live we have no local services so had my assessment and diagnosis online.
First step is to make an appointment and then go from there 😊

Hi Wolfie,
The penny dropped for me when I was 40 and the sudden realisation of the carnage that was left behind due to ADD is indescribable at this point. I am 42 now and have been begging to be seen by the NHS but there is a 4 year waiting list that seems to get longer every time I ring up its unfortunate that our masters in power under support the NHS financially and still don't fully recognise the links this condition has to criminal activity, alcoholism and drug abuse amongst others. I tried the private route but was so expensive was not financially viable and a cartel in my opinion of private psychiatrist's seeing the opportunity to exploit vulnerable people. There is a adult adhd centre somewhere in Liverpool that offers assessment for £200 but I cannot find the link as lost my phone but some internet searching should dig it up I would strongly recommend looking there and pray you get some help as anyone struggling with this condition without professional help deserves a medal or a huge court pay out when they realise how many people they could of saved from more awareness.
All the best
Neil
