I’m struggling with focus and motivation but need to find and keep work. Been told waiting time for a diagnosis is over a year but my Trust has just changes supplier, so don’t know if it will be even longer. I've done online test and come out at the highest levels, read everything going on this, just keen to try the medication now.
A private diagnosis seems to be around the £300 mark, but the private prescription looks expensive. Has anyone heard of anyone transferring prescriptions from a private diagnosis over to the NHS and how did that work ? Thanks in advance for your help.

i saw a private therapist which cost £400 for the initial meeting. he didn’t do a full assessment but he did write to my gP to explain that i needed some further analysis as there were too many co existing traumas to unpick and he told me i wouldn’t be able to afford it. i was referred by gp to adhd team and have had diagnosis from that. it took between 6-9m

Thanks londonwillow. I'm getting quoted 2 years and if even if I get a private diagnosis, over a year to get it passed over. Do you mind me asking which Trust managed 6-9 months ?

I am under central and north west London. My doc is only in on a Monday so I guess I was lucky to be seen so quick no was expecting 18 months but it’s helped that I haven’t been working. I am not sure how I would have coped if I was.

I was privately diagnosed just last week, and started on my medication in the weekend.
I was told that once there had been a few months of trial and error with medication and dosages via my private psychiatrist, she'll be able to transfer my prescription over to the NHS.
So it is possible to jump from private to NHS, in fact both my brothers have ADHD and have done it. Just be aware that there are upfront costs before jumping over to the NHS.
For reference - my sessions and private prescription comes to the equivalent of £200 per month.
