I'm 54, I have been fairly certain that I'm ADHD - inattentive since 1996.
But I didn't pursue a formal diagnosis until about 5yrs ago.... I had to wait over 2yrs to be seen by the mental health team that specialised in ADHD. I scored highly on every aspect of the diagnostic assessment and I was told that I was probably ADHD but as there were no childhood witnesses or school records or medical history, they couldn't make a formal diagnosis. (& therefore no treatment).
I was gobsmacked.... And I was told that there was nowhere else to go with it...
Has anyone else had this experience?

I would recommend going back to your GP to ask that you are referred to a specialist as per the Right to Refer scheme for the NHS, or you register at a different GP and ask that you get referred to a specialist.

I am not an expert, but I think this is "old hat". I am of understanding that nowadays the guidacen say the adult expereince can be used if no witness are available (my parentes were too old to act as witnesses for me).
