Dear all
I was diagnosed with ADD at the ripe old age of 45 on Monday past. It has been an emotional and vindicating experience and I’ve just started meds yesterday. 5 mg of methylphenidate twice daily to be doubled in a week.
TBH I know that this is a very low dose but I really didn’t feel much different at all aside from a gentle calm (lovely) and perhaps an increased alertness. I have a heavy chest cold ATM so I don’t expect to be feeling amazing but is normal to not have a rush of productivity?
Thanks
R

I recently started the same, now on 20mg and only just noticing actually effects. They told me that people don't usually experience an effect until the 15mg dose, so for now don't expect too much! For me it's only affected my outward hyperactivity and no other meds have effected me at all, so i can't help further than that I'm afraid. I do recommend switching the caffeine out of your diet though, the meds increased by resting hr from 60-70bpm to 80-90bpm and caffeine takes it to 100-115bpm!

In my early 60's, with a prior experience of amphetamines and cocaine I didn't appreciate the "buzz" feeling, the increased heart rate and blood pressure.
So I quit ritalin after 6 days. It wasn't the silver bullet I was hoping for. There is always Adderal but I decided stimulant medication didn't fit into my (30 year long) no drug (and no booze) policy.
But that's a personal thing.
Instead I use coffee, Gingseng & green tea & supliments

I’ll see what happens when the meds is increased. I’ll keep an eye on the caffeine. I have already cut it down massively on the consultant’s advice as it was literally my life blood. Today I just had one cup.

If it helps I found I didn't miss caffeine at all on Ritalin.
But went straight back on it after stopping
