Good Evening, So I have known for a long time that I have undiagnosed ADHD but have never spoken to medical professional about it. I never had plans to, until recently.
I am 35, I figured, well I've managed this long, but I have decided a diagnosis is very important for me now, because I would like to access ADHD meds, to help me me function day to day.
I am very symptomatic and struggle daily with different aspects all associated with ADHD. As I've read about the process for diagnosis there seems to be a huge emphasis on school reports.
Luckily I have them all! From reception to year 10.
I left in year 11 because it just all got too much, but I did attend college afterwards and have done ok for myself, considering.
Anyway, regarding my school reports.
They're absolutely awful, every one is typical of a child suffering the effects of ADHD, can't concentrate, interrupts, lot's of potential, intelligent but let down by attitude, inability to focus, behaviour, fixates on irrelevant things, can't finish a task, disruptive, it goes on. But back in the 90's, it just wasn't picked up. I feel embarrassed reading my reports, but also abandoned and really let down. I was continually on report through secondary school and God I tried hard to be what they wanted me to be, but I couldn't, the majority of the time, I didn't have a clue whatvI had done wrong.
I feel these reports alone, without even having an appointment would give a psychologist enough information to very confidently give an ADHD diagnosis (I know that's not how it works, but really they're that bad).
I have a plan to call my GP Tuesday and if they won't make a referral, I shall excerise my right to choose.
I feel extremely lucky to have these reports, as I believe they will be great aid to me through the process.
I am just looking for some other stories, experiences, particularly around the school reports please and whether they helped through the process. Thanks
