I'm planning a return to GP to try and get a referral to some service capable of ADHD diagnosis. Last time went well with me feeling listened to and a referral. So it was a depression telephone service that couldn't help me but I got listened to and a degree of justification for this.
I wrote out an A4 page, both sides, of traits, habits and symptoms. Plus effects on my life and other relevant thoughts. I think the mess of a list probably did more to convince than actual contents.
My question is what prep should I do before the appointment? What should I write down? Is there a list of traits or diagnostic criteria somewhere? Not trying to make out I've got ADHD when I haven't or anything like that. I know I've got ADHD traits, I looked into it it 5 years ago when I tried. In us diagnosis Statistical Manual I match a lot of the diagnostic criteria last time I looked into it. I've slept since so forgotten what they are.
Basically I know to get taken seriously as a seemingly healthy male you have to gild the lily to get past gatekeeper GP. So I really could do with knowing the criteria for getting ab referral.
Background, I'm intelligent with two degrees working minimum wage doing things that should be earning me a lot more. I need to work out what this is for sure as there's something blocking me making a change. It's like I can't see a goal or what else I can do. I'm making mistakes, stupid ones not mistakes with the harder stuff. I'll add up two numbers wrong but do complex algebra with ease, but I'll put anything off until it's almost too late. Because the stress, pressure and deadlines really are the only thing to get me to act at times. Loads of other stuff but basically I have a block over who I am, what I'm capable of and how to work out goals or my future.
