Hello! I went to the butchers on my lunch and asked for a lamb shoulder joint. He took ages faffing around and then came back with a lamb shoulder chopped up into little pieces and said "hear you are ive cut it up nice and small for you" even though I didnt actually ask for that! I just stared at him said thanks then walked off even though I really wanted it on the bone. Hmmm why?! I dont really think this is a typical ADHD thing and can imagine most people would have corrected him and got what they asked for but I just couldnt be bothered and actually felt quite embarassed even though I hadnt done anything! What would you do in a situation like that? Lily x

in truth lily...
it's silly but i think i'd have done exactly the same as you, -he clearly was trying to be helpful, and i'd have felt a bit ungrateful correcting him...
if i was buying it for myself i'd have accepted it like you did...
if i was buying it for my ex-girlfriend i'd have definitely picked him up on it, and made sure i got the whole shoulder!!!
-but that's cos i was more scared of her than ANY butcher!!! ;D ;D ;D

usually I wouldnt want to cause any arguement but I think I would have said actually no I didnt want it cut up because he should have asked and that is really bad customer service and bad manners too I think.

actually i agree, -he should have asked, but it's just he put loads of effort in, then proudly presented her with totally the wrong thing!!!
-like a kid who makes you a tiny cake, but breaks your entire kitchen in the process!!!
if it was a supermarket, i'd kick their ass!... but a little olde fashioned butchers shop,
i bet the guy had white hair and fought in the war!
i wouldn't have the heart to tell him he'd got it wrong!

I think I would have either - walked away without comment (not taken meet or explained why)
- got argumentative (If id wanted lamb pieces I would f-ing asked for it)
Prob first. I have habit of walking away from situations and it can cause teoble

any chance Lily's preference had slipped his mind completely? If it had been me and the butcher had been an arrogant so-and-so he wouldn't have been left in any doubt... if he had been nice and the customer service (other than failing to listen - but been there myself) not bad then I would let it pass.

hmmn. You'd all do better than me. I'd have had trouble believing he was selling me shoulder instead of some other lamb cut lol - have you ever tried to strip a shoulder joint for a recipe without cooking it first? Its nigh on impossible.
I'd have told him that was very nice and thank you very much, but could I have a shoulder joint as well please, pieces weren't really what I'd had in mind. I'd have said that as it happened the pieces would go very nicely into another recipe I had, but that I still needed a shoulder. (Internally I'd have been sullking about my budget getting messed up!) If he'd apologized and sorted out a good shoulder of lamb and given them both to me for a decent price I'd be inclined think innocent mistake. Any funny business and I'd not shop there again.
I just think to myself that I'm giving them the chance to correct mistakes for their sake, not mine. I'm inconvenienced once, but its their livelihood and losing my trade is a bad thing. Then I don't feel slightly embarrassed lol. (Besides half an hour after you've gone he's likely to think about the look on your face, suddenly start remembering what you asked for, worrying whether he got it right, and feeling bad about it if e's a nice chap.)

Well the guy was very old and cute! But I think even if he wasnt I still wouldve walked away!
Actually though like mouse said if I get bad customer service from someone then its highly likely ill either have an argument with them or go away annoyed at myself feeling guilty for the rest of the day that I didnt say what I want to say!
By the way I bought the lamb on tuesday and meant to take it home the same night so I could leave it to mariante overnight in some sauce. Its still in the fridge at work because ive forgotten to bring it home tuesday and wednesday despite putting post-its all over my desk to remind myself and putting alarms in my calendar to remind me! What a waste of money.
