I was wondering 'basic yoga' anyone know of a good website or specific book ( cheep) that is a good introduction to the excercise and meditation techniques? I've found this www.yogapoint.com/info/sunsalutation.htmAnyone else? I mean this isall well and good, however concentration wise? I'm still crap, the dog just has to move and I'm looking at him and wondering 'why's he done that?'

I like to meditate (but I am not very good), I tried Yoga several years ago and it was great. I just wasn't very good at attending the classes.
I find meditation hard because of my lack of concentration, bit of a "catch 22" I suppose!

It's the emptying of the head I find impossible, it's like don't think of anything, I mean I say "dont think of the blue elephant" what you thinking about? but think of nothing, wats that? a white space? then im thinkin 'im thinkin of a white space, is that nothing then? or a white space? By then everything I've ever thought of comes crashing through my mind I suffer overload and have to pass out, like my brain is screaming "OVERLOAD OVERLOAD!"
Thenn I get anxious, upset and depressed and think 'what the hell is wrong wiv me?'
I must be doing it wrong, right? Wrong? right? which is it? AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'/

I did yoga for a while and this is what we were taught:
It's impossible to stop thinking so instead we were supposed to do the following:
1. Observe our thoughts as if from a distance (if necessary imagine they were in bubbles)
2. Label our thoughts according to how they would help us grow (e.g. negative = not helpful; positive = helpful) and mentally say the words helpful or not helpful.
3. Then watch dispassionately as the negative thoughts floated away and gradually disappeared
4. Keep the positive thoughts floating nearby so that they were handy when we needed them.
I actually quite enjoyed this exercise because I wasn't being asked to clear my head instead I was giving more work to my brain.
But I found that I could only do it as part of the yoga class, I could not just plop myself down on a cushion and stare at a candle flame, because everything got jumbled up in my head. My thoughts were less chaotic when my muscles were busy.
It also really only worked with Hatha Yoga Iyengar Style, it was a struggle with Ashtanga Yoga.
You might notice that I'm using the past tense. In my ADHD way, I lost interest in Yoga which is bit of a shame really because it is very good exercise.
But I've kept the idea that I need physical movement and spoken words to help me think clearly, although it can be quite difficult to jolt myself out of an obsessive line of thought.

Awesome, I'll try that, although trying to figure out if something is posative might be hard, as some thoughts I don't want to think about posative or not likew storyboreds, which inb essence are exceptionally cool, but to be honest trying to use the yoga to escape them (too much like work) LOL, no, I AM DEFF GOIN TO TRY THAT! yay! ;D
