Right then, this is the first thread i've started for months, but something's really started to wind me up!...
I've heard from a couple of people, that have been diagnosed, then told to go to their GP for titration.
GPs have neither the expertise, nor the time, to do a thorough titration. and i think people are being let down!
So my questions for everyone here are;
1) Has this happened to you?
2) I was wondering which areas are the worst offenders, so if you could write the rough area you, or your specialist is based. that would be fantastic! (feel free to keep it vague, like name of city, or North-east england etc) -if anyone doesn't want to, don't worry, all contributions are appreciated! ;D
thank you everyone!
-matt

havin my dose altered by my gp but under the guidance of the psych. I have to say tho matt that I cant ask for any more from my gp, she is reading and studyin adhd specifically for me. Obviously it will help others as well but she freely admitted she knew nothing of it when i went and now she is learning alongside me. At least she is showing me the commitment and effort i so desperately needed.

Hiya matt, I am waiting on an appt at the mo to discuss a trial of meds and at my 1-2-1 today she asked if I had the appt letter from Dr X yet, now the Dr she mentioned is not who dx me but is the ‘prescriber’ for the transitions team that I am under, so in my case it would seem that it will be different Dr initially and then taken over by my GP, I will let you know if this isn’t the case (which I doubt very much having seen first hand already how the transitions team here work generally in the other areas of support)
Madscot, as for your GP learning alongside you, I think that is great, wish there were more like her eh……

Where you referred to a specialist by your GP?

I did not know the term Titration before, so I have now learned something new! As it's new to me, I don't know if the link below means anything to anyone but please have a look anyway. Titration of methylphenidate www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-r03.html

I cant actually say ive been officially diagnosed as such jeff. I dont have a bit of paper and I have had no one directly tell me whats wrong. Ive asked the psych outrite several times with no answer. I know what I am though and they clearly think so too, otherwise they wudnt be prescribing me MPH. Its a proper mess up here jeff. I actually got a letter from Nicola Sturgeons mental health chief saying there are still no plans to include adults in the guidelines. Id forgot to mention. How crap is that?

The situation in Scotland seems to be a bit behind. Looks like it's time for you to go to WAR!

I haven't started medication yet but my specialist (gloucestershire) certainly told me I will have to do the titration with the GP...as he's only allowed to give me a max of 3 hours of his time...
