So I saw my psychologist again and he said the ADHD assessment will carry on over two more sessions. He talk like I do defo have it but I was wondering about after the diagnosis.
I see people here talking about clinics...What clinics, what do they do there? Will I be sent to one? I know my psych mentioned that as I'm on lots of meds anyway I might not want more, but I wrote him down a lot of things n sent it to him before I last saw him n he mentoined meds are available aswel as therapy.
I have in front of me a letter saying he has reffered me to a counselling and therapy team assessment too, which I was abit confused with at first n thought he wasn't going to see me again, but I called and he has said he defo does want to see me still.
But yea...rambled there sorry. What happens after a diagnosis?

ryan, i think to be honest it will largely depend on where you are as to what follow up treatment is available.
personally, i was offered meds at the dx appt or given the choice to think about it.
in my pct they also offer 1-2-1 post dx sessions and have set up some workshops.
i think this is few and far between though, but i dont know about the maudsley follow up, or addenbrooks (is it addenbrooks? i think so) which are the key clinics in the uk, maybe some of the others can help with those.
i think it is going to largely depend on where you are as to what happens after.
good luck

boo's right, after diagnosis you should be offered meds and other therapies in accordance with the NICE guidelines. i remember reading that fibromyalgia and ADHD are both thought to be linked to too little dopamine in the brain, -so i wondered if ADHD medications could help to reduce the symptoms of FM aswell as ADHD- a quick flick through the internet found these couple of links... Atomoxetine: www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a794957286~db=all~jumptype=rssww1.cpa-apc.org/Publications/Archives/CJP/2004/july/lettersberigan.asp ( sorry ryan. i can't work out how to link to the above address, but it's an interesting article, so if you copy & paste it you should get there!) ;D Methylphenidate: www.revolutionhealth.com/drugs-treatments/rating/methylphenidate-for-fibromyalgia-syndrome-fmsunfortunately, there doesn't seem to be too much written about whether ADHD meds help with FM... but what little there is, seems to say that they might be helpful. -one last thing, if you clench or grind your teeth in the night, you should get a gumshield 'cos over time you could damage your teeth... you can get cheap ones from Boots, but if they don't fit well, ask your dentist. good luck ryan -matt
