I have a CV that was written for me by a "professional" but I am now amending it to include my recent position. The thing is that I am thinking of totally rewriting and I want to know what you guys think.
Im inclined to start writing it in a more intimate style which should highlight my qualities better. Im a very smart person but I never seem to find positions for me that suit. I really need someone to spot the potential I have and forget about all the small problems, in the grand scale of things they are minor compared to what I can offer.
Also, Im inclined to believe that the qualities I have are desired for scientific work. Being able to think outside the box is a must for scientists, amongst many others.
Anyway, does anyone have any ideas as to how to go about this. Im not quite sure about shouting, Im an ADHDer but look I have all these amazing qualities as well. Its not quite the right method lol. Theres a way though and I just havent figured it out yet. I also think that if it is written properly then they will be expecting to see the real me when I go for an interview, rather than me trying to pretend Im someone else.
Any ideas will be gratefully accepted ;D

I have issues over writing cv's too lol.
Very tempted to have a professional one done myself, but it will just need changing constantly.
Do you mind if I ask what aspect of science? I dug up a load of good example cv's recently and might be able to find one that matches what you need. Also are you looking for pre/grad or post grad?

Im into Biology more than anything. Im more capable in Microbiology labs though as its more interesting. And for some reason that whole sentence just confuses me lol. Ive graduated so it means Im post grad doesnt it? I can be so thick sometimes and it just doesnt quite match up with the intelligent part lol. I always knew there was something wrong with this brain of mine And that link has actually spurred me on. It has a really good setup and has given me loads of ideas on how to present myself. Thank you chrysalis.

Most welcome. You aren't the only one that struggles with the terminolgy lol. I grad with 2:1 hons in Biomedical science last year, but I still mess up all the etiquette of how you word that in a covering letter!

You've graduated - post grad is doing additional work on top eg a doctorate.

OMG Something at last I can finally do!!!!!! I am the MASTER of writing cv's. I have written loads for family and friends and they all got the interview! I might be crap at everything else BUT this is something I really CAN do.
If anybody would like me to - I can - You can leave out all the personal details (like name, address etc) but I would need work experience and qualifications and a bit about you. Also you have to tailor your cv to the partoicular job you are applying for? If you have one in mind, I would need to see the Job Description aswell.
No charge BTW ...... these so-called "professionals" charging money ..... I cant believe it!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not so good at the getting started, but I will be happy to give my honest (blunt LOL) opinions on it. Opinion giving (wanted or not ) another of my talking too much type talents.

You wouldn't think so lol. Tis one tablet and she doesn't need help with it. I can't even begin to explain what it feels like to be on the dole, dealing with the job centre and trying to find a job that fit in the lunchtime run. (Theres too little work here as we aren't very close to a city) Next I just need to sort out appropriate childcare. The arrangements I had in place aren't suitable now she is older. But I feel like am on right track now.

Chrys PM me if you really want some help with your cv. I can do a generic one but then if you get a job you need to apply for then the generic cv will need to be tailored to suit the Job Spec OK?
This offer stands for everybody and again I will NOT need your personal details cos I can email you a template and you can fill those bits in yourself OK?

Thanks Red, that would be great! My time is commited will nxt wednesday , but would love some help compiling a new cv next week. I have component stuff somewhere I'll dig it out. Matt, meds are for ADHD. They help. She finds it easier to concentrate & sit still on them lol, and has more control over herself. I hated the idea of them for so long, and have to have her closely monitored regards weight and height, but its going very well so far. She doesn't appear or feel doped in anyway.

Does anyone else think that their ADHD is a fantastic quality. I know about all the problems we have but we also have some amazing qualities alongside those problems, well I do anyway. And I think that for being a scientist or something similar then the way my brain works is beneficial to that career path. Im very single minded, love solving problems, can hyperfocus until i beat them, im full of energy, lose track of time regular, oh yeah and I can be quite relentless. If applied to solving problems then these are all fantastic qualities, Im sure you agree. What do you guys think?

Most of my family fit the adult ADHD model very well. But most have turned it to their advantage as follows... Each suffered school very badly. But have ALL been successful with anything based around self-directed learning. Several have quite severe dyslexic traits but have used technology to overcome them in most part. Most of the family work in engineering, electronics and science. They are well-known socially and work-wise for excellent lateral thinking and transferable problem solving skills. Several are workaholics and will work for 16 hrs a day for extended periods of time. The word 'impossible' is not in their vocabulary. Each has the ability to hyperfocus when working on something of interest to a point where lesser human beings would have expired from lack of food and water lol. Each will work well independently, and work very successfully in teams too - but find that process horribly horribly stressful . Bad time management, poor confidence levels, disorganisation when it comes to paperwork, heritable tendency to be scruffy no matter how much time and money you throw at it and poor listening skills when having non-technical conversations are where it all falls down . How you try and make a good CV outta such things I don't entirely know. But I do know that most of my family would chalk up more achievements than failures to their traits. Doesn't stop each of them hating not having a discernable sleep pattern tho ;D.

yeah i think its fantastic today (will let you know how i feel about it tomoro ;D ) it really works for my current job, i work at JJB and have to sell shoecare, now the anxietys gone i can sell anything to anyone, i think half the time tho they just buy it to shut me up. ;D and its always like im in fast mode and very competitive, i can sell more shoes because im so fast. however my area looks like a tornado has just passed through. but how am i expected to tidy up and sell shoes at the same time! ;D i got there 30 mins late today and they said the 1st one to sell £40 worth gets to go home at 3, so i left at 3 but the job is sooooo boring i want to run away on my dinner breaks all the time i like my ad/hd at the moment, but i just need to know how to work it now

Ps. Once you get into science as a career, and inevitably become absorbed into interesting sciencey projects to the exclusion of all else..............
Can we call you madscientistscot125? ;D

Its kind of how I see myself also chrysalis. Im not sure you could have got much closer if you tried regarding the positive and negative sides of myself. Thanks again for the reply though because you have helped me a grasp how to define it a little better. My footie mates already call me a rocket scientist anyway lol so why not
