Wanting a bit of advice really.
In short (although I ramble a fair bit, so this probably won't be short!), I'm an MSc student who suspects themselves to be ADHD/ADD. I have worked for the last 8 years in special schools, and the more I have learnt about the condition, the more I realise I 'tick' most of the boxes. I have approached the university to see if I can get an assessment for ADHD. The university won't pay out for an assessment as I received an assessment 10 years ago when I did my undergrad course and was diagnosed with 'a specific learning difficulty - dyslexia'. The uni are saying the regional assessment centre use a test which covers all sorts, but that was not my understanding at the time of diagnosis, but they're refusing to pay out again.
Consequently I have approached my GP twice (through two seperate GPs), who both refuse to accept from my concerns that I am ADHD, with the last discussion with a GP stating "it's a buzzword at the moment". I have explained to my GP that I am dyslexic, and that these two can go hand in hand, but they used that to state that it is probably that which is causing me issues instead. I have struggled immensly over the last couple of years on this course and I am at my wits end now, hence me approaching this forum.
I haven't the funds to go private, and have no idea how to proceed.
During the nights where I have laid awake unable to sleep I have written notes on my phone, of all the symptoms which I am presenting with, and have presented with over the years in the hope that maybe if I show this to my GP they may do something, but I doubt it.
Any thoughts on how else I can approach this to gain an assessment would be very much appreciated.
