I'm posting this here as i'm not sure it'll be viewed in it's rightfull category?!! Ok..Is there any experience in here of which (adhd) meds work best for inattentive or hyper-type adders? We're all given roughly the same meds to start but has there been any evidence of some working better than others? I'm innatentive type, & have found some positive effects from using Concerta, such as increased calm, better sleep & 'slight' improvement in patience. On the flipside i'm not noticing improvement in focus/concentration other than i'm hyperfocusing less. I still can't sit & read the paper, or much to my disappointment help the kids with H/W I'm still binging too I'm feeling a tad disappointed if i'm honest. I had a very bad amphetamine addiction years ago, Clean for 12 years now, but still remember the focus i had with it. (I would never do that again btw)! Could it affect what i''m prescribed?? Would there be more focus improvement with a different prescription? I'm back to bristol in 3 weeks, any suggestions? thanks luvvies xx

-i have read that amphetamine preparations (particularly Adderall in the states) work better for inattentive ADHD. also I think i read somewhere that Atomoxetine works well for inattentives because of its Noradrenergic activity...
did you mention to your psych that you had a very bad amphetamine adiction??? -don't rekon they'd happily prescribe you amphetamines after hearing that.
so maybe look into the Atomoxetine/Strattera option...
-Matt
-sorry no links!

Thanks Matt, yes my psych knows everything lol, i was told it was self-medicating (huge probems in teens/early 20's). Drugs are a problem in teens with undetected add. I'm at no risk of taking drugs again, thankfully.
I will have to ask Doc next time! My dose is being increased anyway, so hopeful that could help.
Sorry again for interrupting in here!!! I'm rubbish at forums

Hi Simone Very common to have self medicated and they were very surprised at Maudsley when I told them no drug or alcohol probs but mine is FOOD ! Thats my vice even medicated I can still eat well but dont binge so much and eat a lot better stuff ! Anyway enough of me I was thinking that because you have that comparison re the amphetamine addiction that maybe you will always try and make that comparison but that increase will help ! I started on 18mg ConcertaXL and now take 54mg also I top up late afternoon with an 18mg equasym so I can cope with my son when his meds wear off ! I also sing and perform in evenings and it helps me to control my voice and focus ! Not been able to sing lately but hope to get back to it soon ! Maybe we should start an ADHD Choir and get that guy off the telly to help organise it ! WOW that would be powerful !!!!!!! Good luck honey you'll be fine ! LOL Light and Angels xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sheena, sorry for delay, i forgot i wrote something in here! LOL My memory..
I struggle with eating habits too, My psychiatrist wants to have help for me seperately, as she's not treating it as part of the adhd. I beg to differ, its another addiction & a compulsion i cannot control. I go through stages of starving, binging, purging & eating continually, for as long as i can remember i've been out of control with it, my metabolism is screwed.
I'm now taking a larger concerta dose, & like you the binging is slowing down, my compulsions generally are dampening down.
You are right about the amphetamine comparison, i will never have that focus again, it was incredible. I was in control of myself, managed to be very creative & eat well, & slept. Br Bolea said i will never feel like that again, but i wasn't expecting to tbh. I'm not wanting a buzz but more focus would be great, i'm still working on that!!
Well done you sticking with such a lovely hobby (singing) I would love to have a nice voice & sing in a choir! I embarrass my kids at church by belting out a few tunes. Its great escapism!!
An adhd choir would be hilarious!!
Sheena you have similar difficulties to me, please feel free to mail me if you want to rant!! x
