is it the way i was brought up or am i just lazy? i must say i did feel silly going to the doctor to tell him about these "problems". at 23 i do have poor concentration and i make a crap loada mistakes. i never to anything that requires a bit of work or i'll leave it till the last day and nearly all the other symptoms cept hyper-activity but the main reason for me going to the doc was my social problems.
thing is i dont know if its because i never had friends as a kid to learn these skills or some disorder. i always interrupt people, say stupid things, things that are irrelevant to the conversation. i doze of when the convo isnt that interesting(everyone does that right?)and when i snap out of it im lost. but one huge problem is the ability to explain something or tell a story, things like a scene im a movie, what happend that day, what happend in the football match.
what usually happens is i try to get out to fast and the words get muddled up and i just sound pathetic and when i eventually get it all out i feel the need to fill that void and jump to another subject and i'll change the subject again i'll do it a few times and its just so hard to pin me down and talk to me. when i try to slow it down i just forget what im saying its ridiculous!
putting all things together i cant remember ever having a proper conversation with anyone and when it hit me that i had no friends i realised it was my terrible social skills.

Sounds very familiar to everyone on here, confirmed adhd or not..... Talking as fast as bullets firing from a machine gun ratatatatatatatat. just throwing this in as well..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClutteringGoing from one topic to the other, 5 topics covered in 5 mins, everyone else gets in a daze and they fade away because they can't handle the elevated jumpiness that you instill in them. Well, you could be adhd - mainly inattentive with a bit of excitement that sort of energises you... I learned to take notice of people and act like I was having a conversation with them. I am looking at a differential diagnosis currently but adhd symptoms are strong in me.

zed, your not alone in this issue, I have the same problems, often want to explain something that happens to me and I don't know how to push out the words- ;D I have told some friends that I have this trait, I am aware of I get distracted and it is hard, but rather than give up and not make an effort, I am learning, its better to go to events then cut myself off and feel isolated, as I like people and I hate not having things to share events with. ;D

hey Zed,
you might well have ADHD, but there are some other things which share similar symptoms too. which is why it's so important to see a specialist for diagnosis! ;D
but i definitely don't think it's because you're lazy!!!
did you ask the GP for a referral?...

They call it that for a reason lol, no one has actually mentioned if they read the link though....... :/
I mean I am tempted to call it identical-thought-process-mental-virtualisation-and-vocalisation-but-presented-10-different-ways-simultaneously-itis but it does not quite roll of the tongue or brain does it.

HAHA, nice one simone!
-Andy, i read the link out of curiosity, luckily it's not something that affects me, but i was still fascinated to read about it!
interesting to read about the lack of self awareness involved:
"Clutterers, are very unaware of their disorder"
"Because clutterers have poor awareness of their disorder, they may be indifferent or even hostile to speech-language pathologists."
Also interesting to read first hand descriptions of what it feels like:
"It feels like about twenty thoughts explode on my mind all at once, and I need to express them all. -that when I'm trying to make a point, that I just remembered something that I was supposed to say, so the person can understand, and I need to interrupt myself to say something that I should have said before, -and that I need to constantly revise the sentence that I'm working on, to get it out right."
-i wonder if it's associated more with the hyperactive side of ADHD?

I think regardless of having hyper or inattentive add, its likely we all have minds that race at a too-fast pace..I suppose thats why we find relief from the same meds, which basically slow our thoughts down?!
I had no idea i was such a fast talker or was always a conversation ahead of everyone else, but it was 'kindly' pointed out to me by someone recently & i was surprised, as i didn't think i 'showed' my symptoms too outwardly.
I was quite embarrased & feel a bit conscious with her now! Saying that she's noticed a big difference since meds, she can finally get a word in....blush
