I have been to the doctors and taken all the info I had on my ADHD. She was very good actually and my case is being put to a psychiatrist. I hope to get an appointment in next 6 weeks. I am drinking alot of coffee in the mean time it helps a small bit but I get alot of head aches.
What happens at the Psychiatrists??

Hi Hotheat, good news for you!
My 1st visit, was an interview, talking over whole life-story & difficulties from childhood onwards. I presume the psychiatrist will already have all your previous psychiactric history, if that's relevant to you, & it helps to bring old school reports if you haven't torn them up!!!
If you have a close friend or family member who knows you really well take them along so they can give their penneth worth! My husband had a field day!
I believe thats all!! Good luck x

Usually the psychiatrist you see is the local consulting psych who knows very little about ADHD. Hopefully they will say that they are not qualified to diagnose you and refer you on to an ADHD specialist. This might not happen because - they just aren't capable of spotting ADHD
- they don't have an ADHD specialist they can send you to
Anywho - the consultation. The psych will chat with you about your medical history, family and what your symptoms are. It's best to be armed with EXACTLY what your symptoms are - write them down and take them with you. Go to the front page here and run through a couple of the ADHD self tests and note down what symptoms you display. Be firm and polite and gently INSIST that you are sure it's ADHD. If they quibble ask if they are an ADHD specialist. If they are not they cannot say you either have OR DON'T HAVE adhd and that you want to see a specialist.

hey hothead, ;D
-it's a shame about the headaches!...
i thought they might be caused by dehydration, because of drinking too much coffee,
-but i've since been reliably informed that coffee does not cause dehydration, ;D none-the-less, maybe you could try taking a caffine pill, like Pro-Plus, and making sure you drink lots of water throughout the day.
see if it helps with the sore head!...
good luck -matt

I have experimented with caffeine via coffee in MASSIVE doses and I mean massive. To this day, I have hardly ever noticed headaches or even withdrawal symptoms. I have taken 10 teaspoons of nescafe to 1 cup of water ratio in the evening and before bed........ That is meant to spike me through the ceiling, but no banana or whatever it is called...... After a few days of large dose, I stopped it without ANY side effects whatsoever. It is weird........perhaps my liver does not break it down quickly therefore extending its half life by reducing its effectiveness? pffffft......... I don't even get any extra jumpiness from 10 teaspoons... weird........... That said, I would still never use it unless it really has some benefit that you really........notice.. I "somehow" god knows how, as I write this, manage to live a teetotal of everything-life.....how the hell do I? Ah, just remembered, food overdosing is my vice. www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A622414You will find an amazing array of data about caffeine below, positive and negative. www.erowid.org/chemicals/caffeine/caffeine.shtml

My 1st visit was exactly the same as Simone's. Just telling my life story. Me & my mum both had to fill in questionaires about my behaviour.
It's only taken me 23 years to finally get a diagnosis!
Caffine does nothing for me either. I'm practically addicted to the stuff.
