Hi Everyone,
To go with the Picture My Life competition, the media would like stories about families who have been diagnosed with ADHD for example a mother and daughter/son or a father and daughter/son or, of course both parents and all or some children. Also, the London media would like a London based case study.
You do not, however, have to be an entrant into the Picture My Life Art Competition for your story to be told.
I'm getting contact details and as soon as I have them, I'll post them here.
Again, these stories are to help with publicising the art competition but you do not have to be an entrant in the competition to be involved in this.

I felt that I should give everyone some advice when dealing with The Media. Almost 10years ago I approached my local newspaper, in the hope that they would publish an article about people with disabilities facing homelessness due to delays in state benefit departments. Someone came to my home to interview me. I was open and honest, and answered all their questions. A few days later I was informed that the article was in that evenings paper, and so I rushed out to buy it. What greeted me was shocking. Instead of the article being about the issue I had intended it to be about.......... it was about me. It was all about bad things that happened to me as a child. I guess that the paper bit onto the abuse, and thought that because it was so extreme & much of it non-conventional, that it would sell more papers. A couple of days later I was telephoned by the News of the World who wanted to come to interview me. They offered me quite a bit of cash, but I declined. Journalists may come over as being friendly & kind, but at the end of the day ALL that they want is to write a good story REGARDLESS of who's toes they tread on. Just be careful.

New to this site - extremely old to the joys of living with ADHD! Having travelled the world extensively, I was, and to be totally frank, still am, quite astounded at the lack of knowledge, or perhaps, up until 2 yrs back that adults actually do suffer with ADHD. I was frowned upon by the the entire mental health sector, this despite records from abroad confirming the diagnosis! Although not surprising when those employed by the NHS are virtually incapable of speaking the Queens English let alone performing the function required of them! Sad, but unfortunately very true!

Terrible but true, and again why does everything revolve round London. It is because the media think its the only place that exixts, when do you here a brummie accent, or ofa film drama series etc set in Birmingham or other places, it it because its not trendy? Sorry rant over.
