Age concern are looking for volunterary befrienders for elderly. Its only for couple hours month. Some elderly people are so lonely and isolated, their famillies abandon them cause they are busy with own lifes and elderly people live a futile lonely existance. I just find caring for others a comfort, so im gonna volunteer to be a befriender, and do an hour a week and visit someone. I feel sorry for the elderly they seem to be the forgotten society, yet they they helped fight the war and kept this country running, yet alot of the time they just get forgotten about. Rant over.

Good on ya...I just had a look at their website as i've been thinking about doing some sort of volunteering aswell. I was looking at xmas homeless shelter volunteers the other day and I think I will prob do something like that also providing the shifts are manageable. Talking of befriending people...I am deffo gonna start befriending a bit of a long lost distant relative. I asked my mum about mental health history in the family and there is someone who appears to have been forgotten about Makes me feel pretty annoyed at my family really, I never even knew about her

I've done voluntry work here and there. It was pretty rewarding too. It was with the elderly and at first I was sure I was going to sacre them. I was in a sleeveless tee, full off tattoo and piercings, a pink mohecan haircut, massive boots, lmao. That was helping with the main Christmas dinner do a few days before one Christmas. I poured the wine and took plates out n stuff. Even had someone from a local council magazine come n take pics, lmao. I went back there once too, but I dont live in that area anymore now. I also did a voluntry thing going to a meeting with some elderly folks once a week, but that wa short lived coz I moved away shortly afterwards. It does make you feel good once you start doing it and of course you can make new friends too

I'm still trying pysch myself up enough to go and see our citizens advice bureau. They are looking for volunteers, but tis a min 6 mnth commitment. And keep swinging between wanting to apply, and wanting to apply for paying jobs.
Sorry to hear funding not going well Safe. Shout if you think we'll all be any use dreaming up fundraising ideas for it.
