I have been with my partner for just over 3 years. We have a 2 year old together and another child on the way.
He has been suffering with ADHD since a young child and has now admitting his problem. We have been to the Doctor but unfortunately there is no treatment in our area and we have to get funding from our local PCT to get treatment and our PCT are rubbish!
Any help, info or advice much appreciated x

Hi twinkle
Your Gp has obviously not read the Nice guidance on adult Adhd!!
Yes there is treatment for adult Adhd and if both your son's have the condition then it is entirely possible for your husband to have the same condition.
A lot of people on here have been referred to their local Community Mental Health Team. You are normally seen by an adult psychiatrist who in many instances will not have had the experience of dx the condition in adults. It is likely they will pick up on "depression" and give that as a dx without realising there's an underlying problem of Adhd.
If you do see one of those inexperienced psychiatists then you need to ask them, how many people they have dx with the condition, how many they have treated - it is at this stage you will find out whether or not you are talking to an expert.
If they don't present as an expert this is when you have to ask them to give their support to requesting the PCT to fund a referral to one of the few Specialist clinics.
Of course you can go private but make sure you get your Gp's agreement to enter into a "shared care" situation. You need to get your Gp to agree that he will be willing to prescribe the medication recommended by the Specialist clinic.
