Hope partners of ADHD can help ? Does living with ADHD for a very long time cause ADHD symptoms ? Also has anyone on here both got ADHD what's it like ? We r pretty sure my partner has ADHD too I have been diagnosed he shows the same symptoms however he can hold conversations easier may have add? His temper is really bad very low frustration levels any views appreciated ? :-)

My partner hasn't got ADHD, but four years with me is sending him a little ga ga lol! Sometimes I say to him, 'Who's got ADHD?' He says its catching.

I think that its far more likely that "birds of a feather flock together" that it be caused by living with it.

My partner has just been diagnosed and im gonna be honest , i do think it can rub off because we become so consumed with the other , we actually do 2 become like " i almoast had a nervous breakdown last year with the stress that was going on .

I am sure my husband has ADD; but he reckons it just rubs off on him. I don't think it just applies to adhd though. At certain times of my month his driving can be quite absent-minded or frankly scary from the passenger perspective. (He says I make him 'nervous' but I can't see how as I sit there scared into silence)

If you live with someone for long enough you will pick up language and behaviour traits from each other. It stands to reason that living with someone with ADHD will rub off on you a little. Poor buggers!!

If you didn't have personal experience of ADD/ADHD would you put up with someone else who had it?

I look at it like this manda, where were you when i couldnt sleep as a kid, had years & years of URTI's, when i had grommets put in my ears at 5 coz my mum thought i had hearing problems, when i was being dragged kicking & screaming to first school, when i was falling out with nursery teachers, school teachers, cub scout leaders, where were you when i couldnt sit still as a kid, couldnt stop fidgeting when i was sat down, always biting my nails, not being able to wait my turn & getting shit bored 3 seconds after finishing what i was doing. Where were you when i couldn't sit in a classroom anymore through boredom & the need for stimulation, without pissing around, being an arse, annoying the teacher or walking out & going to the pub. Where were you when the 12+ forecasted ten o levels became 6 low grade cses. Where were you when i finished my 12 months basic training in the army then got bored after id done the hard part, then depressed, then wanting to leave. Where were you when i walked out of all my shitty mind numbing warehouse type jobs coz i was slowly losing the will to live & every second felt like an hour. Ive only ever been able to work for myself & then if im not working im bored shitless, can never seem to switch my mind off or relax easily & struggle with overfocus, Not to mention all the self medicating & the fact my son was diagnosed last year.
ADHD can cause stress & anxiety & confusion in partners which can show as ADHD symptoms, but it can't cause something that was already there honey, some things your just born with & when you know you know, when you become aware, being diagnosed is just a technicality that affirms what we already know, then opens the door for treatment ;-)
That psych was a dick to suggest that :-0

My take is that neurodiverse people find other neurodiverse people easy to live with. Case in point my brother and his wife. He is somewhere on the spectrum, she denied she was until she met her birth family and found that she had two 1/2 brothers with ASD. I make the joke I would be scared to have babies, because I might have a neurotypical one, and then I would be totally stuffed because I wouldn't know what to do with it! p.s. In the world of people who have personality disordered partners, they refer to some of the traits you "catch" as "fleas"... I think we might aquire some fleas if our partners have particularly strong traits. I don't stim at all, but my former partner rubs his hands together in excitement. I caught myself doing similar the other day
