I should be finally having an assessment within the next few weeks and was hoping to get prescribed ADHD medication and an antidepressent/antianxiety med straight away. Is this likely?

If they dx ADHD you generally talk medication at the same time. They may not do the lot at once - the ADHD meds can help with anxiety because you feel more in control, and the depression may lift as well. See what they say.

thanx. Im slighty concerned about using a private psych cos they could want to charge for as much as possible. Should I ask my GP to prescribe Valium? Can/will GPs do this?

Some incorporate script charges (for a certain period) in the consultation fee - private doctors usually charge a fee to write a script.
The cost of the meds is up to the pharmacy (some meds are more expensive that others and different pharmacies charge different amounts).
Psychiatrists make their money from consultations - they can make pin money from scripts but it's not in their interest to drive you away.

As pd says, the fee you pay the private psych is for the consultation, not really the script. The pharmacy will charge a per tablet price for your script plus a flat rate for dispensing a private prescription. It's not cheap - you're talking £70-£100 for a first month's mph, considerably more for dex, something in between for strattera.

Am surprised strattera isnt more and dex less?? Anyways if the dr doesnt prescribe he'd write a letter to gp recommending a prescription for them to write. Takes a week or so for admin.

My experience was that I didn't get a prescription right away as the Doc wanted a check on my blood pressure and ECG. Mph can aggravate existing cardiac problems and this was a sensible precaution iny case. So this is a reason for a slight delay, probably won't apply to most other people.
Monthly cost of mph depends of course on how much you need to take. this varies widely and needs to be established in consultation with the Dr in the first few weeks.
Sainsbury pharmacy had 30 x 10mg of generic mph at about £7. So hopefully a first prescription won't cost you £100.

Remember that this is a commercial transaction - the suppliers of dex have a stranglehold on the market and are, frankly, taking the piss - but they've got us by the nads. MPH is out of patent so there are generics and the price is going to be more reasonable, though I'd expect Ritalin to carry a premium. Transfer into the NHS as soon as you can for stable pricing.
