Feel quite stressed today, that I've got too much to do, and not enough time to do all the things I have to do today, and am worrying about it all.
Also feel I have a lot to say, and not enough time to say it.
Today:
Can't remember what I didn't do from yesterday's list and I can't see it while I'm typing this.
Be a good parent -don't think I did too badly on this today.
Clean Bathroom
Make bed
Vacuum Stairs
Do more ironing
Get ready to go to work
Go to work
Wrap ebay item
Take ebay item to post office Reprieve buyer had not paid
Help mum with Website
Prepare Dinner
Clear kitchen empty dishwasher and return to pristine condition.
Do load of laundry
Hang laundry
Put laundry away.
Buy watch batteries
Buy Almond flour
Change passwords -write list of passwords to change -devise password system -change each password
Have done one.
That is already plenty
From yesterday
Book doctor appt
organise hair
Did quite a lot, was pleased with progress when I returned from work.

heck. that's a lot. if you get some done it will still be progress. sometimes i do the "if i could get one thing done today it would be..." in order to trim the list down. or the "i have x amount of time so can fit in one/two things - which are the most time-dependent and important things to give that time to?" it's hard to remember that not everything is equally important, and sometimes we have to choose. the more often we do, the easier it gets and the more manageable things seem to become/feel. it is hard tho, so don't beat yourself up. i wonder if you can be a good friend to yourself today and treat yourself like the valuable, hardworking and generous person you are. you will still make progress, but it may not feel as tho you are having to give of the marrow of your bones to get there. good luck

Thank you contrarymary you are quite right, I am having terrible trouble prioritising, I know it is due in part to being surrounded by chaos. I am forever thinking of tasks, and rather than going off and doing them I am trying to note them down to do later, and then I sometimes look at them and wonder why I could have thought it important. Also thought it a good idea to organise things by time of day, as you have done. Will work towards that. gb

I hope this isn't hijacking this thread - sorry if it has. I know I'm not talking about specific lists and working on achieving them. I honestly admire the determination and doggedness shown by people here, hacking away at this problem. I am a really great fan of lists and ticking/crossing off - my problem is that I end up needing lists of all the lists I have made! Observations about getting things done (I suffer from chronic procrastination in all aspects of my life): One classic problen is buying presents and cards for birthdays/celebrations/christmas. It's been hell ever since I got into my first marriage and had to start thinking of other people. The logical strategy ( ) would be to prepare well in advance (as in: start planning my wife's April 2015 birthday now!). I don't mean decide on the gift now - but maybe keep a "secret" file on my computer as ideas come to me. (Wow, Oz, cooool idea! You are such a guru! Let me follow you to the ends of the earth!)Minor challenge - I rarely write up the (useful) ideas that I have: they disappear before I make a note, or I just simply forget. The frustrating bit is remembering that I forgot (which doesn't bring the bloody information back anyway, sadly). The weird bit is that, when I (very occasionally) do get organised - even if it is at the last moment - I get an instant feeling of relative calm and satisfaction. The stress just disappears. I have the conscious thought that "My God, this feels so good to be out of that stress zone! I will do this for the next celebration!" You know the rest. I went through this exact process last weekend (even with the distractions of prep for my diagnosis). After months of ignoring my genius ideas for gifts and recent days of avoidance, I went mad and ordered two presents for my wife (her birthday at the end of this week). A weight just floated of my shoulders. Leaving space for the burden of still not having organised the actual celebration So after all that waffle - my point is that I am still confused why such a good feeling has never been sufficient incentive to get me off my backside and do something which could "easily" be dealt with. Even more so when it's to do with the important people in my life - including my children and grandchildren. Shut up, Oz. Yeah but it always seems . . . Shut up, Oz!!

greyblanketI struggle to choose and prioritise and end up flitting about too. Its a perfectionist thing maybe. It gets so difficult working out what to do that nothing gets done. Anything that breaks that cycle is good. Keep doing bits.

Most of the time I dont. Im on a bit of a roll this week. Most of what I am doing right now has been in progress and ignored since 2009/2010. Really.
I cant remember when I started the tiles. It wasnt this year.
Please dont get down about it. If you are up for it do 1 thing a day. If not then dont worry. I started this thread cause I was in a mess. Couldnt even get myself showered and dressed. Things are ok for me right now so its a bit easier.

shapes - it's consistent small steps, that eventually add up to being somewhere different. Getting a haircut has been on my list since january - took me til today = 3.5 mths - finally done today sorting out the drawers of papers has been on my list since april last year = 12 months - finally done on monday getting glasses has been on my list since 2010 = 4 years - finally done last month. sorting out my paperwork (the drop files, the box files, the boxes of old papers on shelves and in cupboards) has been on my list since 2009 = really tiny amount of progress begun on monday. and hopefully another tiny bit of progress next week. there are lots of days when the only progress i make is keeping going and choosing one tiny tiny thing so that i can say today i made progress. other days have a little bit more, some days have bigger things, sometimes gently and sometimes at a cost. today i'm struggling, tomorrow i'll need to rest up a bit and choose a really tiny thing... progress is about the direction of travel, not necessarily the volume of stuff that gets moved. keeping "done" lists keeps a sense of what has been achieved - if we just looked at what there is still to do we would go mad. do a small thing a day. it all counts, it all counts, it all counts.
