I've probably missed some out, or two of those are the same thing or something, but I'm pretty interested to see which medication is most common on here.....
Jeff.

Hi Jeff
Thanks for starting up this post - it will be interesting to see what feedback you get.
I would be interested to know how many people have their meds started on the short acting methylphenidate and titrated up to the optimal, and then put on the long acting meds. Don't know if you can add this to your "survey"

Hi Chantelle! I hope you're alright. If you have a look here for job and career help: aadduk.proboards85.com/index.cgi?board=careerand here for medication information: aadduk.proboards85.com/index.cgi?board=medicationsSorry if those links dont work properly Im not very good at anything slightly technical! I think i've read people on here say that you can go to places like the job centre for advice on careers help and that sort of thing for people with things such as adhd. Also you can go to these sorts of places for help with getting certain benefits when you have a "disability". Anyway nice to have another person on board! x

Hey, I've just briefly been on the Medications forum and apparently I've missed out 'Dexedrine'. Could a mod add it to the list of options?? That and an 'Other' option.....
Thanks!

Hi Jeff
Whilst I'm an Admin, I'm a complete "nugget" when it comes to IT - I'm sure roland or craig will do it when they log on!

Hi jeff, annie,
Sorry, it will have to be roland who modifies it. I don't access to the admin function ability here. I'm not 100% sure it can be modified even then, roland may be able to delete it so you can start it again. See what roland says.

Okay. I don't know if Dexedrine is that common anyway, and people can just specify....

Hi nicelynutty
Thanks very much for coming on the forum - I like your "name"!!!
If you ring the Welfare Rights Officer (WRO) in your area they will be able to help you fill in the form - they can be found through your local Council. The forms are quite long and very repetitive so WRO can help you get the form right.
Great to hear you've been able to get a dx. You will see, many people on this forum are struggling to get past first base!! It would be really helpful if you feel able to tell us more about the process you went through to get the dx. Just as helpful would be knowing which Mental Health Trust you went through and whether this was a specific clinic for Adult Adhd
When you were dx what did the psychiatrist suggest in terms of medication (I see you are asking advice about meds)?
When it comes to employment, it's best to look for something which plays to your strengths and of course your interest. I'm sure some others on the forum can offer you more advice about this.
Again many thanks for coming on the forum - look forward to hearing more from you.

I'm on both Ritalin AND Equasym.
I prefer Ritalin (I don't know anyone who prefers Equa) for some reason - it just feels 'cleaner' (I have no idea why) to me.
Anywho - Methylphenidate must surely be the biggest hitter on this poll (if we get a good sample size) since it's the recommended first line medication.
Also it goes under several brand names - Ritalin and Equasym are the biggest sellers in the instant release market - but there are extended release versions - Concerta being a most cunning version (essentially a 'tic-tac' coated in methylphenidate - this dissolves and a sponge starts to swell inside the capsule pushing the methylphenidate that's inside out of a laser punched hole).

Hi Jeff,
I don't know how I managed to miss the question about adding dexedrine to the poll (so many apologies for that), but I checked just now and actually even I can't modify a poll.

I try to keep my ear to the ground on the latest developments in treatments. There is a methylphenidate patch (which we don't get in the UK - trade name Daytrana) which would probably be a good thing for a lot of us. Besides products already on the market elsewhere it's wise to watch drugs coming up for other disorders - medications for Parkinsons, for eg, could be beneficial for ADHDers too. We don't get several of the medications available due to a couple of factors. Firstly Europe isn't as big a market as North America and the drug companies aren't bothered enough to get the required licences (testing) done. Simple economics - they only make medications to make a profit. And secondly there isn't enough pressure on NICE to get new medications prescribed here - without enough people being diagnosed there simply isn't the political pressure to bring to bear on them. Perversely some of the major players in the ADHD medication market (the pharma companies) are British. Crap, isn't it.

Is there anything we can do about this kind of thing? Like petition someone or someting??

Daytrana... hmmm.... sound a bit too like 'daytrance' for me!!! sorry 'lightweight' brain intervenes.
I felt Concerta did diddly for me at the max dose my psych would px. I was taking that as having trouble remembering to take equasym.I in the end I have given up on equasym and am dithering about going back to psychiatrist for review. Perhaps I should request Ritalin rather than Equasym.
I found if I forgot to take Equasym at regular intervals the turbulence that followed as it wore off was more disruptive than not taking it at all.. if that makes sense. Would this have anything to do with the brand.. making the turbulence worse .. I refer to the 'cleaner' aspect earlier poster mentions?
At moment I manage at work without meds - and my manager has arranged for me to have a meeting with our occupational therapist at work to discuss possible accommodations, etc.
I love my job and think it is the best possible 'job fit' for me but I recently just missed out by the merest mark on being put forward for assessment with a view to becoming an 'expert' in some of the services I cover. This was due to me being forgetful / not pemanently mindful of making my phone available.
Then I started reviewing things and realised that so far I have not thought about asking for a single accommodation to help me - despite me saying I would if necessary. I brought this to the attention of my trainer and then my manager- arranged OT meeting.

I'm really surprised that more people aren't on Ritalin, I thought it was the most common....

Maybe more children are on Ritalin than Equasym or maybe the name Ritalin is bandied around more.
