Hello Everyone, I hope someone can help my son ??
I have known and felt that my son is just 'Different' from 6 weeks old he has been quite a fractious child to say the least, He is now 5 and has now been 'statemented' at school, He attended nursery from 6 months old on a generally full time basis and both nurseries have highlighted his behaviour and quirks if you like, we have been to see pretty much everyone and a few we have just ticked boxes but Jacob is now at a stage were daily life for him is a real struggle, it seems his sensory issues have again kicked in, he just cant control impulses and behaviours, its very difficult to watch him distressed most days and in all honesty strategies i have do not cut it at all, Time outs reward charts, distraction Technics, i am struggling to compose myself sometimes as its difficult to make him understand behaviours are not acceptable he gets very upset and you can see he is internally struggling with what he knows to be correct behaviour to just have the impulse to just have an outbreak this could be ! Screaming / Running into danger / touching something he knows would be harmful and bed times let me say has always been a struggle but sometime feels he can be gluten for punishment and always ends in tears of 'Mummy i really want to be good im trying soooo hard but my head just wont let me'
we have seen Every option so far (PCHAMS / CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN / EDUCATION PSYCHOLOGIST / HEALTH VISITOR / GP / SENCO / SURE START / NURSERY NURSE) and my responses so far have been especially when i mention ADHD is:
* Who fault is it his behaviour is how it is - you certainly cant blame the health system
* ADHD is complicated and some say it doesnt exist
* well we wont jjust give him drugs
* theres no magic fix
* he will grow out of this
* maybe you need another parenting course
* perhaps try a different parenting approach be more firm and consistent
* well you are a single parent the break up must have been confusing for Jacob
Now WHY cant these health workers listen and see past this and look at how difficult it must be for Jacob to live daily like this, difficult to learn as he cant sit still or disrupts classes as he gets bored if he isnt challenged - its not down to bring a single parent or a family break up nor is it to do with bad parenting , its just because Jacob is different and needs support in understanding how he is and thinking of how to help and make his little life easier to cope with day to day !
Can anyone help in directing me in the right direction to push for proper help and understanding and looking further into ADHD ? what can i do and say to really hit it home to them ?
Please help Anyone ?
