I'm just back from my second visit to my new GP and I'm fuming!!!!
I saw a different one from last time because she was so awful and said that she wouldn't prescribe concerta and insisted that the only way I could access counselling was by phoning, even when I told her that I had problems using the phone.. . and I was so upset that I couldn't remember what she'd said about referring me for ADHD help.
So today. .I made a list of things. . doctors don't like people to come with a list, I know, but I'm determined not to miss anything this time.
Q1: Have they got my notes yet? (because I can't bear having to go over everything again)
A: they must be upstairs. . .me: but they're electronic. . .Dr: there are different systems (WTF!!)
Q2: The last dr said she was referring me somewhere, but I was upset and don't remember where or what, can you tell me?
A: The local MH unit () me: what about my prescription Dr: prescription for what? me: Concerta Dr: well prescribe until you see the specialist, but you'll have to come in
me: I need a new prescription now, and can I also have thyroxine? Dr: yes
Q3: If you had my notes, you'll see that I have eds (hypermobility) and I keep dislocating my right shoulder and there's nothing that can be done surgically, so I've had physio and have been learning to do some things with my left hand. . .BUT last week I dislocated my left shoulder for the first time and I'm finding everyday things, such as getting dressed, cleaning, reaching for stuff off shelves, washing my hair, carrying things etc. increasingly difficult and wondered if it may be helpful to see an Occupational Therapist.
A: And there's nothing can be done? me: no, just physio. . .I'm supposed to do it at home, but don't get round to it so go to the gym.
Dr: do you think you'd benefit from more physio here? You can refer yourself if you call this number and they may decide you need OT.
Me: I have difficulty using the phone, do you have an email or postal address? Dr: If you call this number they may have an email. me: but I won't call because I find using the phone difficult. Dr: What would you like me to do? me: can't you just refer me yourself by letter? I don't mind if it takes longer because it's not going to go away.
Dr: OK, I'll write a referral.
How fucking Dare He? What if I'd been deaf? or had a speech impediment? or a better known learning disability?
I'm only just feeling confident enough to admit that I have problems with using the phone after realising it's quite a common thing among us ADHDers.
Why does everything have to be such a battle?
