Like I said earlier, I personally use it as a rescue remedy.
I find that it has a real calming effect. I'm glad to say that I haven't needed it lately. (600mg)
If I remember it takes an hour or so to work.. Last about 4hrs? If I remember.
I will pm you with the seller I bought from. Enjoy. Manson88

I just want to share my experience with as a word of caution.
I have been through the DLA claim system twice turn down twice. Been to two tribunal's also.
My first experience of a tribunal was unacceptable the way I was treated.
My representative pulled out at at last moment. Told me to go ahead and ask for adjournment as he could not attend.
The panel had my Dr notes. Plus additional evidence. Of which they took their time reading and going over.
Anyhow so they called me in, a Dr a barrister and a lay person (think she was a social worker)
The chair person started to ask me questions about were my representative was and put me under pressure which she could see that I was having trouble containing myself. Furthermore there was two professionals sitting beside and never said anything.
They could clearly see that the chair person was causing me extreme anxiety. My fit or flight was starting to engage I was shaking in my boots. Ready to clear the place lol.
So I got it adjourned. I went of in to my car & cried. I have made a complaint about what has happened. I have tried to get a solicitor on the scene but a at a £125 per hour I can't afford.
So currently I'm harassing them each month to find out if the investigation into what happened is any further on. It's a act of discrimination of what has happened and all I'm looking for is an apology.
I feel that they are covering it up and trying to play down hoping that I will give, but it's not going to happen. Protecting the char person involved.
So this experience has put me off from another tribunal. I have had one since for DLA to which didn't win.
I don't trust the panel-chair person's I wouldn't be surprised if they were watching my name/case and had a grudge against me.
It's real soul distorying when ever you know that you have the conditions and the life that goes with them.
I hope you are aware that it's not as easy as filling in a form & sending it.

Something I learnt on the Adhd journey fairly early on was the importance of regular contact with the same gp. I book a appointment for the same day same time of each month. Example last Friday of each month @ 16:30. Why? Cause there is always something. Plus your trying to get a working relationship together. He was rude to me one on the phone once . My support worker encourages me to report to GP whenever my mood has dipped. I know it's difficult to get over or take. The one person who you think is spose to help you, support, listen, access to services also prescribe medication. It goes on. It's difficult. Now he's buggering of to New Zealand I have to carve a new working relationship with someone else. There's only one blessing about getting on in years lol petra. Is the Dr's seem to be getting younger. Any Dr I have seen up ontil lately has been a generation or two older than me. You just need to work on it and take it forward some how in a way that is in your advantage. If you understand what I mean.

Sleep.. From I started on 18mg of concerta I have been getting the best sleep in about, 20 years! 7 hours & half hours in a night only a teenager would sleep like that! There's 1 new year resolution a year but there's 12 new monthly resolutions lol lol If plan A doesn't work there is always plan b, c, d, e. An opportunity to reset and start again. Lol my new monthly revolution is to clean up my diet. I got really depressed in July. I went to 60mg of Strattera and the mood went the other way. Spent a lot of my time eating and sleeping. 18mg of concerta xl haven't seen any great change in my concentration compared to the Strattera. But love the jitters and the giddiness you g about an 1hr and a half after taking it lol. Has not had an impact on my appetite but I'm not exactly trying to avoid certain foods. Maybe if I was to avoid the chocolate and crisps and fancy coffees it would help! Maybe when I move up in dosage it will take affect.. Comparison to strattera I lost about a half a stone in two weeks. With just eating 3 meals a day. 1. SORT my sleeping patterns out AGAIN. This is possible and has been done before quite successfully. 2. DONT overthink about spelling, grammar and punctuation - I've dealt with this issue now. It's over!

I was hoping that when I get up to 36mg it would last longer. Patients is certainly not my strong point. I have noticed a difference on 18mg and to be fair liked the way it made me feel. Just a glimpse of clarity was an eye opener. Having read others threads on here I do feel very lucky to have been able to see a private Dr. I'm hoping for a shared care agreement though longer term, the cost of meds monthly wouldn't be sustainable. If the meds don't last long enough you can ask for an extra Ritalin per day. For me Concerta works pretty long, 12-13 hours, but I end up crashing at the end of a busy day. Usually I don't mind as I can just doze off on the couch or go to bed, but I also have days where there are business dinners and late evenings at a conference or such. For those days my doc has now prescribed Ritalin. I take Concerta at 7:30 and in the evening at 19:30 I can take the Ritalin to avoid the hard crash and get a few more hours. I still have to try it, but it's supposed to work quite well. The only downside is if you happen to be someone who can't sleep while on meds and you end up in bed earlier than expected. I hope you find a way to cover the costs of the meds and that you do not have to go as high as me. I'm on 72mg, which means 54 + 18mg Concerta. Because it's not the methylphenidate that is expensive, but rather the capsules, having two is quite an expensive proposition. Here in the Netherlands the meds aren't fully covered by health insurance either, so I end up paying most of it. Best of luck with the meds and don't worry if you loose the benefits after a few days. Your body adjusts and it takes a while before you find the right balance/dosage. @dutch You just answer my question! I have noticed that the body does gets use to the concerta. I find that the come down is real gentle. I would like a we bit more stim - up the dosage. I don't know I think that he's trying to give me as little as possible. To save money. I think that it is working. Attention very much similar to when I was on strattera 40 mg in the beginning. But I don't have the energy or the motivation. Think that is maybe what I need.

simbo I'm a week in front of you I started on 18mg of concerta xl Last Wednesday I'm similar to yourself were I'm feeling the affects of the medication but feel that there could be room for some more. The biggest difference to me is the sleep. It's the best sleep I have had for 20 years! I have even longer to wait than you have. I was given my prescription for 30 days and told they will see me in 4-6 weeks. I couldn't believe it. No tritaion plan just see you in 4-6 weeks bye lol. Well I got a prescription that's everything. Was told any issues or problems to contact my gp as it's shared care.

I love the look you get from the pharmacist when you are collecting your prescription, the glare over the top of the glasses. Like do you really need this son? The day started pretty well, up and ready to go to the gym by 9am, left on time with no distractions, had a great work out then stopped off to pick up my prescription. This was a private prescription, never had one before but assumed it would be the same as a normal one, wow how wrong I was. First two chemists wouldn't touch it, not registered or something. Rang the doctors and got told where to go. Arrived handed it over then waited 20 mins to be told they could not dispense it as anyone could have written it. They needed to speak to my consultant to make sure that I was entitled to them. It was sort of downhill from that point, after my rant about him assuming I was a junky and how totally incompetent he was I stormed off out, forgetting to pick up the prescription and my son (he is old enough to be left alone!) my son arrived back at the car, I think a bit embarrassed, and suggested going to eat. During our meal I had an email from my consultant to say she had spoken to the pharmacist and all was ok, return now as they were ready to collect. Quietly went back in and collected, paid and left. I guess he was just doing his job by of course it was all about me!!!! Let's hope the rest of the day improves slightly.

duckster Sorry for not getting back to this life takes over!! Ok I have a lot similarities to your self. General anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder and dyslexia. Lack of grades etc etc etc. I attended CMHT and without me pushing them I wouldn't have got 1 DX done. So the Dr who DX me said that I had boarder line Adhd. Off course I wasn't happy with this so I tried getting tested out of trust. This didn't work out either cause I was told that they would not see me as a service was available within my trust. So I had to go back through CMHT a year later and this time it was a different team. Different generation as well - different thinking different ideas. They referred me on to the psychiatrist who read the evidence and said that I have been treated unfairly. So I got treatment and a positive DX!! (i have been on strattera 40mg then 60mg. Came of it, now I'm on the concerta 18mg) Just a personal opinion from my experience... I have tried getting the DLA for my conditions with no success. Even though I have all the issues going on. Truthfully the DX only means a label to attach things to - your symptoms. So you can also get treated in my opinion is everything. You will get a reasonable adjustment in the workplace or university for your dyslexia. The disability officer at the university that you attend will be aware of the issues that run with dyslexia as the over lap in conditions mental health /Adhd etc It will depend on the quality of knowledge and experience of your employer/uni. Or the person/agency who is arranging it for you. Keep at it! Manson88

I use the memory foam ones. The guys use them for shooting.
I use to work in a factory before my lorry driving days. I would had lined my pockets with the ear plugs so that I have a good supply.
I would've also kept my ears plugged ontil I got out of work and we'll on my way home.
When you plug your ears for a while you do get use to it. Then they get sore I would take them out.
Lol the things that we do.

But hold on here.,forget about the DX for one moment.
Your getting a prescription!!! You're getting treated.
That's all that matters in end truthfully. You have a set of symptoms and you are getting prescribed on that evidence.
Take from me the person who has had 2 DX and worked with a psycharictist who has now turn round & said we will give this a go. Referring to treatment of course.
Embrace it and move forward it's not easy but it's better being treated and trying out than not getting the opportunity..

Oh yes it's common on here to hear this one.
Auditory processing disorder. Common with Adhd cause autism could be a factor. Certain noise can be over bearing one of mine is a child squealing at the top of its lungs.
It's been known for me to have ear plugs near by.

A lot of interesting things to consider manson88. My wife and I have been slowly simplifying our lives for a few years now and although it is quite difficult it is also very helpful. We have given away several car loads of stuff to various charities. While we both work at a very high level and our work is very much part of who we are, we have also been shifting emphasis a bit more towards relaxation. This Friday I will finally start with a course on Mindfulness through my psychiatrist and as such it is tailored to my ADHD. I expect it will help me make another very important step in the process of simplifying my life and simply be content more often. There is a very small chance that my wife might get an offer from Australia and we have already decided that if it comes and we decide to make the leap into the unknown by moving there, that we will also use it as a fresh start. We will then adopt a more leisure-oriented lifestyle. We can still work hard, but will also let go of a lot of stuff we're still stuck with. If it doesn't happen, then we will try and force it some other way. I think my biggest dream at the moment is to find a balance between working hard, which I love, and really enjoying my time off from work. To me it seems that such a dream should be perfectly possible to realise. Well funny I'm at a cross roads in my own life were I'm about to make a decision for me... It's difficult place to stay but it's also difficult to move forward. I'm also looking at a big life time change and also trying to minimise things in such a way that life is less stressful for me.

Agreed! being out of work is probably the worst thing. I work contracts and have 10 - 12 weeks without work and am finding everything difficult. I'm turning into a gym bunny, just to get me out of the house, even though I find it incredibly boring. . . I have a plan to go to Staples tomorrow, to look at personal organisers - I know! exciting! I'm much better when I have the external discipline of work. I take my meds as soon as I wake up, whatever the time. But you have a routine there and you don't realise it. I can't cope with the gym cause I need a routine lol plus I wouldn't pay for one either or a PT. I'm actually trying to create a new one. It's a form of mindfulness looking at my dairy everyday and writing in it. Helps with planning, ordering medication plus working towards goals. Generally haveing my mindful of things that matter and are personal is better than dwelling on useless things that dnt matter.

clubbyI'm just back from 2 weeks holiday. I didn't go anywhere really. Being out of going to work/ routine was really difficult for me. It caused me anxiety!! At a difficult time when the medication is causing me to be depressed. I had to reduce from 60mg ⬇40mg of Strattera. I was more or less the same as tessaract meds being taken at the wrong time etc. No proper diet, example too much sugar, some alcohol. Not enough exercise. Too many late nights and people expecting me to do things and go places that I have no interest or pleasure doing. I'm the same at Christmas when I get out of my routine. Everything becomes harder. If you read about adhd one of the things that they recommend is hard exercise, clean diet, and routine. It's one of my hidden joys (routine) there's security in it for me if you understand.

I have posted about this before, but cannot find the post. I had given up my battle to get CBT from the Maudsley. Imagine my surprise to get a telephone call from them to say that the funding was actually agreed last October and that I can go for an assessment in a week or two. I know there was someone else who was trying to get funding for this, and I wondered whether they had had similar success. I just cannot remember who it was. gb Yea!

Ok so I'm fed up! I'm fed up with the conditions, the symptoms and the system.
I have a professional in my contact who is putting me under pressure to get another form of support.
The truth to be told I can't arsed be bothered running to counselling. I can't be bothered with tending. Can't be bothered going over all the crap!
I'm fed up running after the condition... To some it may not seem like much but it takes time to stay healthy. To remember to be on top of yourself.
Ordering your prescriptions, making your appointments collecting them and so on!
Give me a break!
