Sooo. I had an assessment today and been told I'll be getting an adhd assessment soon.
I've spoke to my mam previously about her having to go there with my to get my background etc.
I text her today to remind on that I will need her to be there with me soon.
Reply was "depends when it is" (doesn't want to take a day off work)
I replied feeling angry and upset "I will pay you for taking a day off"
To which she replied "ok"
I couldn't believe it, I was in shock but not surprised by the reply.
That's my "mother" and now I've said I won't bother her again ever!
Reply was "ok, whatever"
Baring in mind I have never done anything in anyway to annoy or upset anyone and do not for anything.
Only this as it's really important!

Have you spoken with her since? She could have been busy. I've learnt the hard way to find out why someone has upset/disappointed me so I can get good and angry on safe ground.

I had a think about why she said what she did before I told her I won't bother with her again.
That's all my so called family that don't care, not what you need but I'm being as strong as I possibly can

I don't see it as great news Mary, I don't see any future. No family. No kids.
All my life has been is punishment and torture X

Cheer up CraigjMost of us here have families who are dysfunctional. My mother is the exact opposite of "earth mother". I know how difficult it is to cope with adhd difficulties when the family continually undermines your efforts. Don't worry too much about the future or think about the past if you can. Our lives are a series of Nows. Try and make each Now work for you. Welcome to the "we don't have lovely mothers" club.

Craigj My mother only wants to believe her version of things. She's clearly ADHD but narcissistic with it, and won't have the stigma associated with such a diagnosis. It was my brother and my wife who got me diagnosed along with school docs and other corroborative evidence. I think it was too obvious and overwhelming in the end for the psyches to deny it.

I have my own happy safe family now. Getting the correct diagnosis is a startimg point to getting the correct help.

Agree blaze . If parents are reluctant, criminal, AWOL, deceased, downright obstructive or just indifferent to an adult's diagnostic needs, then this shouldn't necessarily preclude a diagnosis. I think many NHS centres are recognising this, and as your experiences suggest, have no choice ultimately but to find inclusive, non-discriminatory ways towards accurate diagnoses. I'm sure mind mapping of brain activity will do it quickly for future generations as scientists and neurologists find a way to compare brain images of individuals to known physiological markers for ADHD.

No issye was made of it at all.
