I figure quite a lot of people on here lose things, so feel free to post whatever you have just lost or are currently looking for on here. Today my missing item is my driving licence? (and all the rest -bar one- of the rest of my plastic) They usually live in my mini shoulder bag that has my car keys firmly attached, but I used that bag as a money belt while on holiday, and removed everything that I didn't actually need . . . and now I have no idea where I put them . . .

Keys! every day, even with a tonne of colourful keyrings/lanyards attached..
Student card! I'm onto my 4th/5th now .. need it to get into the carpark at uni so its a right faff on when I can't find it on a morning..
Phone! And when I try and ring it its either dead or on silent..
Headphones! They're always hiding in pockets and end up through the washer a few times before being lost completely..

Whatever I am looking for, I lose.
Everything needs to be chained down!

today it was mainly:
keys x2 - even tho they ALWAYS live in the same place
headphones - found in pocket of my bag, having not seen them for weeks
underwear receipt - found receipts for everything else, cleaned out bag, checked bin, reycling bin, pockets... found it in plain site on top of the chest of drawers where I keep my underwear
alarm - even tho it was ringing at the time

Today it's an HDMI lead. New monitor came with three leads, not all the same, which i untied and put over my computer chair because I didn't know which one would work. First one did.
I wanted to set my old monitor up in a double monitor-y way and tried it, with its own connector. It didn't work. I lost interest. Went to stay at the GF's for a couple of nights. Came back, looked for the HDMI lead to put in my new monitor so I can put the old monitor in the old slot, which I know it recognises.
Not there. My front room is in one of it brief moments of tidyness. It isn't in a drawer, it isn't among the morass of leads under the table. Everything is connected to something else. I went through the leads one by one. It isn't under a couch, down the back of the couch, in a box, it isn't anywhere.
It has literally melted into nothingness. It's a two foot lead. I found a lead that I thought might be it, but I checked to see what they looked like and it wasn't (i didn't really think so, it had a bit of ingrained dust on it, but I was desperate) and it didn't fit (what the hell, I thought).

I'm getting better at not losing things. I got a new bank card through the post last time and I stared at it, because I had never gone so long without losing it. Looks like, fingers crossed, I'll do it again (7 months to go).
It helps that I do my pre-flight checks everytime I leave a 'room', inside and out. Keys, wallet, phone, glasses. I also put my keys and wallet in a little box by the door (also helps with impulsive internet buying).
Interruption/Rushing is the Devil, I have to start again. If I forget stuff now, it's stuff that hasn't become routine (or so routine that it slips from interest). Little things like organizing the night before and putting everything by the leaving door also helps.

I've developed so many 'systems' to keep track of things that I don't lose things as often now.
Problems occur at change of season when I have to change jackets and have to re-learn the pocket system, or having to use a different bag,
or, like the past few days when my mum was visiting and she KEPT MOVING THINGS!!! There's no point in having PLACES FOR THINGS (then secondary. . etc places)
if someone comes in and moves stuff! I also have a good visual memory, which helps.
I still haven't finished moving house and unpacking, so I'm still finding things that I can't remember ever having! and also looking for something I know I have. .
but it's in a box somewhere. . . I'm still working out more places for things in the new house. . new systems. .
I've been wearing the same 2 or 3 outfits for months because I don't know which drawer/bag/cupboard I've put stuff in. Most of it may as well not exist. .
I'm worried that I'll never be able to live with anyone ever again because I'm so rigid with my my places for things, I get really upset if someone moves something.

I lost my camera some time in December (2015, not 2014 - though I did once lose an ipod for 2 years before finding it again), and am still waiting for it to magically reappear.
My Mum found my MSc certificate in among the 'Paper For Burning' pile last week. I don't think she was too impressed.

Some things - like my keys - I never let out of sight, some things I always keep in the same pocket. Everything else I forget. When I come to work I never have all the food I planned to have. I may have all the stuff I had in the freezer but not the boxes in the fridge. Or the other way around.

. . . bag of vitamin pills. They live on the floor by my computer chair. No reason to move them from there, except when we have visitors, but I've taken them since then, and my eldest doesn't count as a visitor so I have no idea where they might have gone, I've looked almost everywhere, only my bedroom left really, I'll have a look in a mo, if I remember On the plus side, looking for them turned up a missing hairbrush Hah! Found them about three seconds after posting! I went to grab a fleece off the back of the chair, and noticed a patch of bright colour under my coat . . . *sigh* P.s. I hope you find your needle soon contrarymary, I know how nice some are compared with others, sometimes it's what they're made of sometimes it's the shape of the points.
