Adult ADHD treatments and knowledge in the NHS is shockingly poor. Adults diagnosed, may have funded their own diagnosis, reduced pressure from the NHS waiting lists and taking on the the costs themselves for diagnosis and treatment. Why should adults that seek diagnosis for themselves, usually due to the fact the current system is failing or the fact it failed them as a child, have to then fund their ongoing treatment? The NHS will not prescribed ADHD medication via a shared care agreement between an NHS GP and a private psychiatrist, however if they identified the condition in childhood or referred their patient as an adult, then this would have been funded. The NHS is unable to provide adequate resources to manage ADHD.If the NHS had effective methods of diagnosing adult ADHD, and the specialists required then many would have their medications prescribed by the NHS, however this is not he case. Many are forced to go private and when a shared care agreement is requested they decline it. The guidance (GMC, NICE and BMA) does not state that the private consultant must be an NHS specialist, in addition most private consultants are also NHS consultants in their day jobs anyway. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131590/sponsors/iHjPNiwxVgApm6pWGMry

Great. I'll get over to it now. Thanks for the support. If you know any bloggers or how to get momentum behind it that would be great. After we spoke I noticed others had the same issue and for me it brought up the whole issue of the fact we all slipped through the net and spent half a lifetime searching for answers and dealing with the negativity society put our way. It is more than just adults receiving, care, because we should not have so many adults trying to fix themselves. You don't see people with physical disabilities having to jump through so many hoops, so why are this with mental or developmental challenges forced to? Also if we cut child and adolescent mental health care, aw we going to see NHS GO's and schools that are ineffective at given people that chances they deserve in life? Not only do adults Dave the NHS money by initially going private, but they are failed by society already. We really should make sir children and young people Do not have to fight as hard as we have had to.

Shep2016, I clicked on the petition link you provided, but got a 404 Error. Is the petition still up for signing? If it is, and if you're looking to share it more widely, have you posted your link on Facebook ADHD sites? You'd probably get a wider audience there...
Well done for doing this if it's still going; I'll try and remember (hah!) to check back and try the link again later.
