HI, I was wondering if anybody has any experience/info about whether one can claim incapacity with ADHD? I'm really struggling to juggle work and family and something has to give, but the income from my job is keeping us afloat so wondered if this would be an option for me? Thanks

You can apply for PIP, even if you're in work, and also get tax credits. ESA if you're out of work. This is from the money advice service, which may be easier to understand than the government website, although it also provides useful links: www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/disability-and-sickness-benefits-check-your-entitlementsIn law, you have a disability if you consider that you have one. . that your day to day life is impaired. . if you feel that your ADHD impairs your ability to carry out daily tasks, then you can consider it a disability. I don't claim benefits personally, but there are plenty of people here who do. I am currently looking for work and disclosing my ADHD as a disability to employers. You may be able to get on better at work if you disclose your ADHD and ask for any 'reasonable adjustments' to be made in order for you to be able to continue to work. You could also claim PIP while working.

Cross-posted with gc7 . . she has more experience of these things than me! I read your other post and see that you're a school TA. . .if it's a local authority school, they should have a disability policy and procedure for 'reasonable adjustments' at work.

I've been keeping a close eye on this thread, I imagine one of the bonuses of getting diagnoisis is help with such matters. I'd much rather be a sahm, I'm not good in the working market. But my OH and i are planning to open a business/school together. And it's a concern of miine that i won't be as useful over the long haul as is hoped. Work and me just don't get along very well :-(
I hope you can get the help you need ;-)

My experience of PIP and ESA, is that PIP is easier to get than ESA.
