Hello everyone,
I am finding work life hard at the minute and its down to my supervisor (2nd in charge) and boss. The boss is new but basically (long story short) I told the 2nd in charge (call him James for easiness) that i have adult ADD and it can effect my memory so please bear this in mind if i forget to do something. James was fine about this although he didnt quite grasp how add can effect my work in other areas. a few weeks ago James didn't give me a break until 3.45 (i started at 9 and had a morning break at 10.15 for 15 mins) I finished at 5pm. In the end at about 3.30 I phoned (i worked in a cafe away from the big cafe) to ask for my break. On arrival he made it clear by pulling faces that he wasnt happy that I phoned. I will be honest in saying that i laughed as i was nervous, shocked and just releived to be getting a break. On the following day I spoke to James and stated that I wasn't happy and felt that I can't wait that long before a break as I need time out. I then reminded him that I have ADD and he then said something along the lines of... well if you can't manage then you are in the wrong business. He then went on to say that my breaks are paid and maybe if I had scheduled breaks then i would lose pay.
Later in the week, James came over the the smaller cafe with a fellow colleague, he then stated that I am the messiest person he has ever worked with. Again i laughed nervously as I was trying my best and I could have used an extra pair of hands as it was so busy and therefore cleaning just didnt seem a priority.
At the weekend after I left, James went over to check the cafe, he never seems to do this with anyone else and decided to write a note with all the things bullet pointed that I hadn't done. The note was certainly passive aggressive and was, what I would call unneccessary and offensive. I could understand if he used this as an aide memoire for the boss (let's call her Sarah) to talk over with me, but to get Sarah to pass it over to me and clearly sarah was pissed off to the point she didn't say hello is just shocking.
I spoke to my counselor that I see at uni (His last job involved special educational needs and children's/ adults rights at school/ work) and after chatting I decided it would be a good option to chat to James and try explain how work is affected by ADD. I actually felt calm and positive about it all. Anyways, another supervisor (Scott) said that he mentioned to James that I was upset by the note and that I wanted to chat for him. James turned round and said, well if Duckster can't manage in the smaller cafe we wont put duckster in there.
I am totally shocked by the last incident to the point that I get angry thinking about it all.
Sarah hasnt been here long and on the day she gave me the note, I explained that I struggle to get everything done, to which she replied and said i need to ask for help. Later on, sarah came over to check on me and I plucked up the courage to ask for help. Sarah then replied with, you just need better time management. again, this shocked me. However, i gave her the benefit of the doubt and later spoke to her in private to tell her I had ADD and sometimes I wont get everything done. She looked as if i had stated something completely irrelevent and of topic (such as - i cant wait to watch the tv tonight) and she then basically said (i cant remember the full response) but to sum it up, I need to time how long each task took and then use that to help me in future. Maybe it's just me, but that was not helpful.
I really dont know where to go, where I work there are other departments and we are all overseen by a few members of staff. I am worried if i take it further they will take the side of Sarah and James and I will end up losing out on a job, which i cant afford to do.
I am sorry for the long read but any advice would be great and any previous experience that people have had would be really useful.
Thanks
