Hi all
Thought it would be worth me sharing my early experiences of starting medication. I found the other posts so useful and helpful that I'm pleased to add my own experiences.
I was prescribed Medikinet (ritalin) 10 mg (medium acting) and Methyfenidate 5mg (short acting) by the psychiatrist, to "have a play with". So I started on the medium acting yesterday.
8.54 am: took 1 Medikinet tablet with 2 breakfast bars and a small chocolate cake (not a normal breakfast but I was at work).
9.00 am: meeting with Boss. Felt amazingly calm and in control. No racing thoughts, able to concentrate on what is being discussed - note taking was easier and clearer. Time seemed to slow down a bit so that it was easier to handle things.
10.30: check in with co-worker - she reports that I appear "more still" and my speaking voice is lower.
11.30 - 1pm: Long meeting with management team. I was hoping for loss of appetite (I am on a diet) but unfortunately I was quite hungry by 1pm!! Urges to butt in, share inappropriate "quips" etc - all seem to be gone. Slight whooshy head mid-meeting but this was fleeting.
All day: Motivation very high. Feel able to "just do it" and handle tasks as they come in. Sorting out papers and then following through to ACTUALLY FINISH A TASK is completed. I sorted out some home paperwork that had been giving me palpitations last week, without really batting an eye.
5pm: Very tired and can sense dose tailing off. Stop work. (I did not sleep properly the previous night)
NOTE: I have been self medicating with caffeine quite heavily for the last 6 months but I daftly decided to cut out the coffee in case I got the shakes. BAD MOVE! I started to develop a CAFFIENE withdrawal headache at about 2pm which developed into a full blown migraine by 6pm and lasted ALL NIGHT. (am back on a moderate amount of coffee today).
So I have not slept properly again. Am hoping for a good night sleep tonight.
That's it. More soon.
