Hi all, I know it has been a while (again).
I have seen a new doctor today and wow was he a breath of fresh air, even he came up with bipolar 2 and cyclothymia as possible co-morbidities for me and he wants to investigate further. On top of that, I came off my Ritalin as the growing anxiety was getting out of hand. He suggested lisdexamfetamine and that I should do a bit of research on it for my own piece of mind.
I was hoping you guys had some experience you could share with me as it isn't a drug mentioned to me before.
Cheers in advance Em xxx

Hi mrsh I've been on Elvanse for a month at 30mg and will start 50mg tomorrow. So far it's been much better than mph regarding side-effects and crashing, but I'm not sure if it's having any positive effects. My BP has gone up a bit. There are a few of us on here who have recently started taking it curlylucy mojooff the top of my head. .but there are others. .

hello
I've been on Elvance for just over a month. I can't compare it to any other meds as this is the first one that I've been prescribed. I had a few crashes/feeling jittery/upset stomachs to begin with, but I'm not getting that now. I also wasn't convinced that it was doing anything, but I think my expectations were a bit high and I'm also a quick metaboliser, so that has an impact on its effectiveness. I have now moved on to 70mg, and the first 4 days have been promising, no negative effects and I have been feeling calmer and quite focused in the mornings, although still noticing a drop off in the afternoon. For more details, have a look at my diary. :-)

Thank you both. It looks like I will start it next week. Ritalin was causing my anxiety levels to shoot up. It all depends on the assessment my doc is doing for bipolar 2 as to what he gives me next but he told me to research it so I guess he is thinking that is the way to go.

mrsh as regards anxiety. . I really should be going to bed, so I'll be brief. . I went up to 50 mg today and what I noticed was the lack of anxiety. . I've never thought of myself as being particularly anxious, but the lack of it tells me that I must have been constantly anxious and not acknowledged it because for me it was my natural state . .it could just be temporary. . I don't feel any more focused or physically/mentally calmer. I'll write more in my diary when I've thought about it more. .goodnight.

Hi
I agree with vagueandrandom
I've been on 30mg for 2 or 3 weeks now - definitely calmer than on mph - anxiety through the roof on that
Haven't seen any benefit to focus or motivation though
Have had a few crashes and bit irritable in mornings and evenings but no major side effects
Have you started? How are you getting on with it?

Hey all. Took my first dose today. Head a little funny but it is a baby dose (20mg). Doctor worried that I could go high if I don't start super low. I get it, but highs feel so much better that the low I have been having recently. When I saw my new psychiatrist, he says he *thinks* I have co-morbid Bipolar 2. The way I described my moods, the way I feel etc he seemed to completely understand. It felt good to finally have someone who sees the bigger picture. My nurse basically says if I sneeze it is my ADHD, so would not listen to me about my moods. If I stabilise on my ADHD meds (Elvanse) then he will monitor me for signs of BP episodes. If I go high then he will start with Lamotrigine then try and introduce an ADHD med. From what I have researched they usually treat the bipolar 2 first but I do trust this doc, he seems to really know what he is doing. I will start a bit of a diary thing to monitor my progression with the Elvanse. Hopefully this is it! xxx

Elvanse seems pretty good from what I've read.

Had my first dose today (docs got this sorted surprisingly fast) and so far so good. I feel a little bit funny but it's not too bad - no aches, dizziness or anxiety so far (the reasons I switched from concerta). I've gotten quite a bit done today too so it seems to have helped. Taking 30 mg.

My other started Elvanse this week, on a low dose of 20mg what a change only on day 3 but instead of the anxious repetitive soul he is, hes calm, relaxed,a little quiet but can have a decent conversation, says his tension in his head is calming very slowly, but he is having tension in his left eye, like tired feeling. Hes sleeping better at the moment, i know its only early days yet and hes still getting used to it but will the drowsiness reduce? His consciousness seems to be waking up,

I take Elvanse. As mentioned by others, I don't get the task-completion mono-focus I'd love to experience (just once, please Lord?) but it definitely improves motivation and the ability to get started. On days I don't take it, I'm just lost in reverie, unable to select one task over any other: get up? Brush teeth? Read research paper? Build shelves? Do food shopping? Stay in bed all day? I started at a 10mg dose and had headaches and some alarming chest pains. These were dismissed by my GP as early side effects, and soon wore off. I'm cranked up to 60mg/day now. It's supposed to last 10 - 12 hours, but I find I get about 8 hrs - sometimes a problem if it coincides with a post lunch slump about 3pm. In general, pretty happy with it, especially as it doesn't heighten anxiety for me.

So little update on ELVANSE
1. When I started they made me feel incredible in the morning and like death in the afternoon (7 hours after I took them) tried a second dose, didnt work.
2. Took a day off on sunday for my first week on Elvanse it was ok but was very tired at the end of the day
3. Started taking only in the afternoon as I am a morning person so my energy and focus is ok in the morning and for now... touch wood its working incredibly well!!!!
4. Cannot sleep so I have sleeping tablets.
5. Takes an extra 15 - 20 mins in the morning to get my motor running and this is not usual for me.

Sounds like you're having trouble towards the end of the day. Maybe consider asking your GP to give you 2 x lower dose Elvanse pills per day - one for the morning and one for a bit later on in the day. E.g. 20mg in the morning then 30mg at noon if you're currently on 50mg for example. This might lighten the impact at night and smoothen the effects through the day a bit better. Should also reduce impact on sleep and mitigate the need for extra sleeping pills. You may already know this but elvanse peaks at about 4 hours but its full effects can take up to around 13 hours to wear off.
