This morning I managed to blow the fuse for our house... Twice.
It was a simple task I thought, all it involved was pouring in water and flicking a switch.
I managed to overload the Kettle and blow the house circuits twice, after forgetting to put the water in there. Twice.
Every time I flicked the fuse back on the phones burst into life with a loud beep (at 6 am) probably waking people up.
A little annoyingly I have been having (ticks?) in my throat that causes me to jolt and swallow on the drift of falling asleep, stopping me from sleeping - and my family because of all the moving about I do at night.
I haven't been to sleep for longer than an hour or two, for three days which I will use as my excuse.
Think I'll wear a safety hat for the rest of today.

Get a new kettle! Not entirely joking. It should NOT be knocking out the circuit breaker, only it's own internal fuse thingy. Throat tics sounds dodgy, but it also sounds like myoclonic jerks, which I associate with cramps and RLS. So before you go to the doc, try a salty drink in the evening. If it's going to work it'll work that night. No need to 'build up' or anything like that. And if it does work, you might like to look into how much protein you are eating. My salt cravings were never very strong, but I don't get them at all, if I've eaten enough (a lot) of protein that day. Do you know what's caused the change in your sleep pattern? (Change in daily routine, activity levels, stress, injury, diet, medication . . not that I'm suggesting going back on medication if that's the change that triggered it (long story . . .) ?) eta, Going back on medication is not necessarily a bad idea either, it just depends on the medication. I find mph is the cherry on the cake, for getting a (relatively) good night's sleep, with no downside (for me, everyone is different).

Hey Marionk, Thanks for the great advice in your post, I decided to try the warm salt water you suggested, my throat feels less tight & painful already after one drink, which is amazing! You have helped more than two of my local GP's, without even asking. I will drink another one tonight and let you know how it goes It's something that has been causing a lot of Anxiety for me, to the point where I have pulled all-nighters instead of trying to sleep. The Kettle's new! I think it's a safety feature they built in (luckily) for people like me, so that the kettle doesn't pass a certain unsafe heat temperature. I struggle with protein, just raided the cupboard, all I could find that would be good for protein was a can of baked beans! Sleep schedule has always been over the place, usually up at night. I have always gained a random burst of energy around 6pm(Ish)/Evenings which last into early mornings, very annoying! I take Dexamphetamine (IR), which often used calm me down enough to sleep, but hasn't been working recently due to the jerks, sometimes makes them worse due to a dry mouth . Thank youa gain for the reply and suggestion of warm salt water and more protein, they were fantastic suggestions and seem to be helping (eating a big bowl of beans and cheese! Healthy...)

Hi Owl . .another thought . . I have restless legs . .which is rarely just (or even) my legs. . it's quite often my head, neck and shoulders . .sudden jerks as you're about to drop off to sleep. . .magnesium's supposed to be good, either in a tablet, or Epsom salts in the bath.

So glad it helped It's always nice when the simple things work. I'm a doctor's worst nightmare! The GP I saw about maybe getting an MAOI to treat my psoriasis, was actually not offended by my knowing more about it than he did (I flatter myself that he looked impressed ) but I don't think the 'sleep specialist' was too happy when I told him that mph helps me sleep. He said "mph works by waking you up in the daytime." Yeah, right, everyone's the same (NOT).

Forgot to say, it might be worth trying the dex again, making sure you are eating enough protein as well.
Even normal people are supposed to eat 0.8 to 1g per kilo of body weight, which, if you've overweight, like me, adds up to a lot! Combine that with the fact that even meat is only 25% protein, and all other food components dwindle into insignificance!

Just remembered something else about salt, particularly table salt. Sodium tends to 'push out' potassium, and you need both.
Sea salt is better, and if you can get enough from naturally salt rich food, like fish and meat, that's even better. If you don't fancy a salty drink, or salty food, don't have it!

Fantastic, thank you for all the info! The swallowing has got far less common since I started drinking warm salt water at night. :-) Really has improved my sleep loads!
