Since I've been reading a lot about adult ADHD and recognise a lot of mistakes in my life symptomatic of this I've set out to get a diagnosis. However I think I have quite an unrealistic expectation that medication will fix everything, I'll become productive and focused, I'll be better in relationships, I'll essentially be my best self. I know I'm probably only dreaming here but does anyone have success stories of how since being medicated it's changed their lives for the better?
Probably the most successful I've been was my time in the military and that's due to have such stringent structure I had no choice but to focus and eventually excelled as a result.

I can absolutely appreciate that. I've unintentionally set up a diagnosis and treatment as a panacea for, well, pretty much everything I feel is wrong with me - even though I tried to be mindful that it is just a diagnosis and that I'll need to actually be given one first. Although, even if nothing really changed for me because of it, I think I'd just feel relief in knowing. At the moment I'm not thinking about life after an assessment. I'll be stuck if I end up with a negative diagnosis, though.

I was hopeful too, but am not finding any marvellous improvements. Although I understood there were not unlikely to be any 'miracles' I didn't expect to feel so depressed by the outcome. Wish it were different... am on Elvanse.
