In 8 days I'm going there to take part in their study into cognitive remediation therapy for the first time. I'll be going there 2 days per week and they're refunding me the cost of the journey, as I couldn't afford it otherwise. I've googled it and found out they've already conducted a similar study about its use for schizophrenia, which had positive results. Schizophrenia involves similar cognitive deficits to ours if I'm not mistaken. They've also conducted a very small preliminary study into its use for anorexia, which was promising as well. Wondering if anyone else here is involved in this one. We might see each other.

no 'fraid not, i'd love to help out on a trial like that though, sounds really interesting.
-will you keep us all posted on what it involves, and whether you feel it's working for you though?

Yeah, I'll try to keep a kind of diary about it anyway, so I can keep track of how it's going, so I should be able to share what goes on. I don't know what they're going to do about the fact that I might have a dose increase every month. I told them and the lady said she'd have to discuss that with someone, but then they rang to confirm the date, so it's not ruled me out of the trial, at least. They won't be able to ignore the fact though, if they want valid results.

Had my first actual session of it yesterday. I sit at a desk with two members of the team, one mainly making notes. It's relaxed and informal, and the activities so far are quite enjoyable. They make suggestions of techniques that make the tasks more easy, of how the skills might be relevant to daily life, and of what I might try at home to experiment with ideas that come up when we talk about how my tendencies in the tasks might be related to difficulties I have. Having been out of work and study for a while now, it's just nice to be given new ways to challenge my unsatisfied brain, too.

WHERE ARE YOU ROSEBLOOD??? ;D ;D ;D Hi Sheena, hello again Matt. I've had problems connecting to the Internet because we transferred from Sky to Virgin Media. All sorted now. The trial finished a few weeks ago. It will take some time to be published. I did find it useful. Mainly, it demonstrated repeatedly and trained into to me the benefit of trying to look before leaping and of carefully considering how to approach tasks first, and of continuing to think of and experiment with different ways to achieve tasks instead of just hurrying through. We discovered which CBT-style pearls of wisdom are the most effective at keeping me organised, and practised coming up with new strategies that suit me. The many different activities and variations on activities shed some light on what things make tasks difficult for me, and the evaluation sheets encouraged thinking about what could be learned and taken away from them. I also enjoyed the sessions and feel more confident that I have the potential to cope and succeed with a more independent life when one finally comes along. I'm a little concerned that I won't be able to sustain it for long, and the high frequency of the sessions definitely helped keep me focused on putting what I learned into practice and having things to report back, but I suppose I'll see. I do see a Vocational Advisor now and then and if I see her more often it might help remind me of how important it is to keep it all up on a regular basis, because we talk about how I've been doing generally as well.
