Looks like he might lose his job.
He is now 20 and has inattentive ADHD and 'slow cognitive development' .
He lost his previous job as he just could not get into work on time, left early and didn't keep tabs on the length of his lunch breaks. He didn't seem to understand flexi-working either. Sadly, at that point we had no diagnosis of ADHD, just a 'suspicion', do he was dismissed.
He is now 10 weeks in to another job and it now transpires that he is being late in and taking longer than his half hour breaks [he works shifts, which seem to suit as it's 14:00 -22:00 - he is a night bird so the times are OK]. He isn't achieving his targetted percentages and despite support from a charity that supports ADHD-ers, is still not able to do anything to improve his performance.
We are meeting up with his mentor tomorrow to discuss where we go from here and could do with some tips if anyone has been through the same situation? We are considering trying to find a 'working at home' job or his own business but are at a bit of a loss.
Thanks

Hello there I'm replying as this resinates with me at 20 year old! I had a very good apprenticeship but struggled with time keeping and coursework etc! infact all I wanted to do was chill and smoke weed but mother was always on my back moaning saying I need to quit smoking and buckle down. Ended up getting a council flat on the dole...no job, no nagging mother, no problem! Light it up boys Anyway now I know it was ADHD causing my self medicating but at the time I was labelled a stoner. Anyway the flat learnt me a lot of life lessons too...like don't invite mates round unless they got some weed plus you still have to get up anyway and sign on. Hope this helps

I have a part-time job where my boss doesn't mind if I'm late or leave early or take a longer break for lunch, the understanding being that I'm paid by the hour so it's my loss if I don't work for as long as I could. With ADHD I think short-term gratification/reward is important, e.g. I'm always aware that if I spend half an hour longer in bed, I simply won't get paid for that half hour... which wouldn't be as clear if I wasn't paid by the hour
So a job like this could be more suitable, it could be worth talking to your son's boss (although this could probably go the other way too) to see if they can change how your son understands his role.
In terms of time management, this sounds a bit silly but it could be worth trying one of those digital watches that beeps every hour, to remind him what time it is... I live near a very loud clock tower which has the same sort of effect
