Hi all new here,
I was diagnosed with Combined type Adult ADHD (Impulsive subtype) about 5 months ago. I started on 30mg of Elvanse a day, worked fine for 2 weeks, then nothing. I was then upped to 50mg, worked great for a while. I have a 1 year old baby so I'm up early and I'm up late, and found the elvanse wasn't lasting from 6am till 6pm (more like till 2pm and then completely unable to concentrate on anything or do anything useful). I was then given a 20 mg booster of Elvanse to take at midday so I tried that for a month of two, maybe got a couple more hours productivity from that, but still not enough. I went back to the psych and explained all this, that the meds work, just not for long enough.
I've always always had a fast metabolism, so i requested some instant release boosters for days I've got more on my plate. He gave me 10mg Methylphenidate IR told me to try those that 10-20mg in the evening when needed. Had them 6 times and never again, instant panic, palpitations, blurred vision etc.
I have now asked him if I could try the IR Dex route as a emergency booster instead which he's reluctant to do although he suggested that over the Ritalin in the first place just warned me of addiction potential. I think his problem is that it's frowned upon within the ADHD specialist community and I've no intention of "abusing" any of my medication, just some days are harder than others.
The side effects of the Elvanse aren't something I'd recommend to a friend, but the methylphenidate is even worse (for me). He suggested upping me to 80mg of elvanse instead which does not sit right with me whatsoever.
How far can he put the dose up by 10mg before I'm that tolerant to it that I have big suppository of Elvanse that weighs a full GRAM to either swallow via shovel or stick it where the sun don't shine?
Anyone had this combo? He's looking into his guidelines or whatever, but what I'm potentially going to be on which I'll be happy with is 50mg Elvanse daily + 5mg/10mg IR dexamp only when required, if it doesn't suit me then at least I've tried it out.
Thanks in advance.
